Former US President Donald Trump recently shared some of his most detailed public comments about his falling out with Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier who died in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking. According to Trump, the rift between them began over a disagreement regarding staff from his Mar-a-Lago club.

Trump explained that Epstein had taken employees from the club’s spa, including a woman at the center of an underage sex scandal involving Prince Andrew. “People were taken out of the (Mar-a-Lago) spa, hired by him, in other words gone,” Trump said during an interview on Air Force One. He claimed he confronted Epstein, telling him, “Listen, we don’t want you taking our people.” When Epstein repeated the behavior, Trump ordered him to leave.

The White House has previously stated that Trump expelled Epstein from his club two decades ago “for being a creep.” Some media reports suggest that their relationship soured over a Florida real estate deal as well.

Virginia Giuffre and the Scandal

Trump also confirmed that one of the spa attendants taken by Epstein was Virginia Giuffre, who later filed a civil lawsuit against Prince Andrew, accusing him of sexually assaulting her when she was 17. Giuffre, who alleged that Epstein used her as a sex slave, committed suicide in Australia in April.

“I think she worked at the spa,” Trump said. “I think that was one of the people. He stole her.”

This revelation adds another layer to the ongoing scrutiny surrounding Trump’s connection to Epstein. Before becoming president, Trump promised to release more information about Epstein, a figure often linked to right-wing conspiracy theories about trafficking young girls for VIPs.

However, Trump faced backlash from some supporters when the FBI and Justice Department announced in July that they had not found any new information warranting further disclosure about Epstein.

The Role of Ghislaine Maxwell

In response to growing pressure, the Justice Department has sought to release grand jury transcripts from the Epstein investigation and interviewed Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's imprisoned accomplice. Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted in 2021 of recruiting underage girls for Epstein, has offered to testify before a House committee but only if granted immunity.

Maxwell’s lawyers have proposed that she would be willing to testify openly and honestly if given clemency. They emphasized that without formal immunity, she could not risk further criminal exposure in a politically charged environment.

Additionally, Maxwell’s legal team has outlined several conditions for her testimony. She would need to see potential questions in advance and would not agree to be interviewed at the Florida prison where she is currently held. Furthermore, any testimony would have to come after the Supreme Court decides whether to hear her appeal seeking to overturn her conviction.

If these conditions are not met, Maxwell’s lawyers said she would invoke her Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination.
