Thief Invades Boston Home as Man Shaves

A Disturbing Home Invasion in Boston's South End
A recent incident in the South End of Boston has left a homeowner shaken and concerned about his safety. According to reports, a woman reportedly entered his home while he was showering and stole thousands of dollars worth of watches. This alarming event highlights a growing sense of insecurity among residents in the area.
The break-in occurred on East Concord Street, marking the third such incident reported in the South End within a short span of days. The incident was captured on Ring security footage, which showed a woman entering the garden level entryway before walking through the front door at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22nd. She exited the house less than two minutes later, leaving behind a trail of unease for the homeowner.
Chris Coveney, the affected resident, shared his experience with local news outlets. He revealed that he had forgotten to lock the front door before getting into the shower. As a result, the intruder was able to enter the house and make her way to the guest bedroom, where he keeps his collection of watches on the dresser.
Coveney expressed his frustration and anger over the violation of his privacy. “Absolutely violated and mad! It’s completely unnerving to have someone walk into your house because they don’t have any moral boundaries,” he said. He only realized something was wrong when he noticed his watches were missing.
He questioned what would have happened if he had been in the bathroom naked when the intruder entered. His reaction was one of disbelief after reviewing the security footage and piecing together the events. “It’s one thing to have packages stolen,” he said. “It’s another thing to have someone walk into your house and steal your things and have absolutely no issue with doing that.”
This incident is part of a pattern of break-ins in the South End. Earlier in the week, there were reports of an intruder who made herself at home in a family's condo on Worcester Square while they were away. Police believe the same suspect may have been involved in a break-in on East Springfield Street the previous day. The suspect was released on personal recognizance shortly after the incident.
Neighbors in the South End are growing increasingly worried about the rising number of break-ins and the potential for more serious crimes. Katie Mearn, a suspect in some of these cases, was recently re-arrested after a warrant was issued. She is expected to be released on Wednesday, July 30, due to the lack of an attorney caused by a public defender work stoppage.
Coveney expressed his fear that something truly dangerous could happen if the situation isn't addressed. “I’m honestly worried that something really bad is going to happen to someone at some point,” he said. “Someone’s going to get killed, shot, stabbed, whatever, because they stumble on someone in their home.”
Coveney believes the most recent break-in was committed by a different woman, as he observed a man entering his doorway shortly after midnight, less than a week after the unsettling incident. Neighbors are attributing the increase in disturbing encounters to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Mass and Cass corridor, where crowds of drug users continue to gather.
“This is the first time in 30 years I wondered if this isn’t the place for me anymore,” Coveney added. “Nothing seems to be working. I don’t know what the solution is, but I know it needs to be addressed somehow.”
In response to the incident, Coveney has taken steps to secure his home. He has ensured that the front gate is locked and has reactivated the automatic locking feature on his front door. Boston Police are currently investigating the theft of his three watches and a pair of sunglasses.
As this story continues to develop, residents are urging authorities to take swift action to address the growing concerns in the neighborhood. Updates on the investigation will be provided as more information becomes available.
