Suspect Charged After Police Chase, Car Theft Attempt, and Officer Attack

A Dangerous Escape and Confrontation
A man, identified as a "documented criminal street gang member," is now facing multiple charges after a dramatic police chase and an attempt to steal a patrol car. This incident, which was captured on bodycam and dashcam footage, unfolded just after 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 27.
The Start of the Police Chase
Brandon Roy Boothe, 36, was spotted driving a Chevrolet pickup that had been reported stolen. A Seagoville officer attempted to pull him over, but Boothe fled, initiating a pursuit along Seagoville Road towards IH-20. The officer eventually ended the chase when Boothe entered eastbound IH-20 in the wrong direction.
Another officer later spotted Boothe traveling eastbound on the service road of IH-20, near Beltline Road in Southeast Dallas. This led to a second police pursuit.
A Collision and Escalating Tension
During this second attempt to apprehend Boothe, he reportedly drove across a grassy area and collided with another vehicle at a low speed. Both vehicles came to a stop near the intersection at Beltline Road, according to police reports.
Boothe then ran from the stolen pickup while being chased by a Seagoville officer. The officer tried to use a Taser on Boothe, but the attempt failed.
A Violent Struggle Inside the Patrol Car
As the chase continued, Boothe circled back and jumped into the officer's patrol car. While closing the driver’s side door, the officer caught up and lunged into the car to prevent Boothe from driving away. Inside the patrol car, a violent struggle ensued between Boothe and the officer.
Boothe managed to take control of the vehicle, putting it in gear and driving it forward into the stolen pickup. He then reversed and accelerated, dragging the officer outside the patrol car. The struggle lasted several minutes as Boothe continued trying to escape in the car.
Eventually, another Seagoville officer arrived and subdued Boothe using a Taser.
Arrest and Charges
After being arrested, Boothe was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation. Once cleared, he was transported to the Dallas County jail. He has since been charged with robbery, aggravated assault against a public servant, unauthorized use of a vehicle, evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
Injuries Sustained by the Officer
The officer involved in the struggle, later identified as Sgt. Sinclair, suffered minor facial and leg injuries from being dragged out of the patrol car. He received treatment at the scene.
Police Chief Ray Calverley praised Sgt. Sinclair’s actions, calling them "exemplary." He expressed hope that Boothe would receive justice in court.
A History of Crime
Seagoville PD revealed that Boothe has a long history of criminal activity, including being a documented street gang member. At the time of his arrest, he had an active warrant for a parole violation issued by the Texas Department of Corrections.
Inside the stolen pickup, officers found two handguns and ammunition. Calverley described Boothe as a "career criminal" who had recently served time for various crimes but had been released on parole in December of last year.
CBS News Texas obtained 22 mugshots of Boothe, showing arrests in several cities, including Seagoville, Garland, Mesquite, and Dallas. Calverley expressed confusion about why someone like Boothe had ever left incarceration, questioning the judgment of those responsible for prosecuting such offenses.
