Sarasota Memorial Hospital Ranks Again in U.S. News List

Sarasota Memorial Hospital Maintains Prestige in U.S. News & World Report Rankings
Sarasota Memorial Hospital continues to showcase its excellence by maintaining a strong presence in the U.S. News & World Report’s annual list of the nation's best hospitals. This year, the hospital received recognition for 22 medical specialties, procedures, and conditions, highlighting its ongoing commitment to high-quality care.
The hospital was listed among the top 50 hospitals for obstetrics/gynecology and was recognized as a top performer in 21 other areas, including various medical specialties and treatments. These rankings reflect the hospital's dedication to delivering exceptional healthcare services to the community.
Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News, emphasized the importance of these rankings in helping individuals make informed decisions about their healthcare. He stated that local hospitals play a crucial role in providing quality care close to home, and the rankings serve as a valuable resource for families and patients.
Regional Leadership and National Recognition
Sarasota Memorial maintained its position as the top hospital in the North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton metropolitan area. However, it dropped slightly to the No. 8 hospital in the state. Despite this, it remains the only hospital in the two-county region to be included in U.S. News’ 50 Best Hospitals lists, which evaluate nearly 5,000 hospitals across more than 30 medical and surgical specialties annually.
The Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute at Sarasota Memorial continued to be recognized as a high-performer in multiple cancer-related specialties, including gastroenterology/gastrointestinal surgery, gynecological, lung, and prostate cancer surgeries, as well as leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma.
This year, U.S. News introduced new ratings for heart arrhythmia and pacemaker implantation, and Sarasota Memorial received the highest marks in both categories. Additionally, SMH-Venice earned its first national Best Hospitals rating for superior outcomes in patients with hip fractures, marking a significant milestone for the facility since its opening in late 2021.
Community Commitment and Leadership
David Verinder, CEO of Sarasota Memorial, attributed the hospital’s continued success to the dedication of its physicians and staff. He noted that the hospital, founded 100 years ago by and for the people of the community, remains committed to its public mission and community ownership.
Florida Hospital Rankings
AdventHealth Orlando claimed the top spot in Florida, followed by the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, UF Health Sands Hospital in Gainesville, and Tampa General Hospital.
