Overview of Combat Engagements on August 17

As of 22:00 Kyiv time on August 17, there were a total of 127 combat engagements reported along the front line over the past day. The most intense fighting occurred in the Pokrovsk direction, according to a report from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Enemy Attacks and Military Activities

Russian forces launched a significant number of attacks on Ukrainian positions throughout the day. They carried out 52 airstrikes, dropping a total of 86 guided aerial bombs. In addition, they deployed 1,611 kamikaze drones and conducted 3,607 shelling attacks targeting both military positions and populated areas.

Frontline Situation by Region

Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk Directions

Ukrainian forces successfully repelled two enemy assault attempts since the beginning of the day. Russian forces also conducted nine airstrikes, dropping 23 guided aerial bombs, and carried out 150 attacks on Ukrainian positions and populated areas. Seven of these attacks involved multiple rocket launcher systems.

Southern-Slobozhanskyi Direction

The enemy launched three assaults on Ukrainian units near Vovchansk and in the direction of the settlement of Khatne. One battle is still ongoing in this region.

Kupiansk Direction

Russian forces initiated offensive actions near several settlements, including Zapadne, Kindrashivka, Petropavlivka, Stepova Novoselivka, and in the direction of Kupiansk. Ukrainian defenders repelled five out of nine attacks, with fighting continuing in some locations.

Lyman Direction

Russian forces attacked Ukrainian positions 13 times near Hrekivka, Karpivka, Ridkodub, and Hryhorivka, as well as in the direction of Drobysheve, Yampil, and Kolodiazi. Eight clashes are still ongoing in this area.

Siversk Direction

Ukrainian defenders repelled four enemy assaults. The Russian army attempted to advance near Hryhorivka, Fedorivka, and Vyimka.

Kramatorsk Direction

The enemy made three unsuccessful attempts to breach the defense of Ukrainian forces near Oleksandro-Shultyne and Bila Hora.

Toretsk Direction

Russian forces launched eight assaults on Ukrainian positions near Toretsk, Shcherbynivka, and in the direction of Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, and Rusynyi Yar. One clash is still ongoing.

Pokrovsk Direction

Since the start of the day, the Russian army attempted to advance on Ukrainian positions 42 times. The attacks occurred near Poltavka, Vilne, Nove Shakhove, Zapovidne, Novoekonomichne, Myroliubivka, Novoukrainka, Lysivka, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Udachne, Dachne, and in the direction of Volodymyrivka, Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Pokrovsk, Novopavlivka, and Molodetske. Fighting continues in some areas.

According to preliminary data, 155 Russian soldiers were neutralized in this direction, including 109 irreversibly. Ukrainian forces also destroyed two artillery systems, five vehicles, six motorcycles, four communication antennas, and 20 drones. Additionally, four artillery systems, one motorcycle, and six enemy drone control points were damaged.

Novopavlivka Direction

The enemy attempted 19 times to breach the defense of Ukrainian forces near Tolstyi, Zelenyi Hai, Voskresenka, Oleksandrohrad, Maliivka, and Temyrivka. Seven clashes are still ongoing in this area.

Huliaipole and Orikhiv Directions

No offensive actions were reported by the enemy in these regions.

Prydniprovskyi Direction

The enemy made four unsuccessful attempts to approach Ukrainian positions.

Russian Army Losses

From August 16 to 17, Russian forces lost another 900 soldiers in battles against Ukraine. The Armed Forces of Ukraine also destroyed 49 artillery systems and 88 vehicles. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the Russian army has already lost over 1 million personnel.
