NATO and Polish Forces Respond to Russian Attack on Ukraine

Poland and its NATO allies took swift action in response to a large-scale Russian drone and missile attack targeting Ukraine on Sunday night. According to the Polish military's Operational Command, duty aircraft were scrambled, and ground-based air defense and radar systems were placed on high alert. The alert lasted for approximately three hours before forces returned to standard operations.

NATO's Air Command, along with Swedish JAS 39 Gripen fighters stationed in Poland, played a key role in the response. This incident highlights the ongoing tensions between Russia and NATO as the conflict in Ukraine continues.

Drone Crosses into Lithuania from Belarus

Lithuania’s Defense Ministry confirmed that a drone entered its airspace from Belarusian territory. This is not an isolated event, as Russian forces have frequently used Belarusian airspace to launch attacks on Ukrainian targets from the north. Authorities in Lithuania were still searching for the drone on Monday morning.

Scale of the Attack

Russia reportedly launched 324 drones and seven missiles into Ukraine overnight, according to the Ukrainian air force. Of these, 309 drones and two missiles were intercepted or suppressed, while 15 strike drones and two missiles hit three different locations across the country.

In Kyiv, at least eight people were injured when a Russian drone struck a residential highrise building. The head of the city's military administration shared this information through a post on Telegram.

Zelenskyy Condemns the Attacks

Andriy Yermak, the head of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's office, criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin for continuing the attacks despite calls for a ceasefire. He stated that the recent barrage was proof of Putin's refusal to end the war.

"Russian air attacks are still ongoing, with civilian infrastructure, homes, and people, including in Kyiv, already affected," Yermak wrote. He emphasized that there is no alternative to sanctions, strengthening Ukraine's long-range capabilities, and taking tough actions against Putin's inner circle.

Yermak also noted that the scrambling of NATO aircraft and the drone crossing into Lithuania were signals that cannot be ignored. "The Russians and their satellites are testing NATO's reaction," he said.

Zelenskyy Focuses on Strengthening Ukraine's Defense

Zelenskyy highlighted that Ukraine is continuously improving its air defense system. He stressed the importance of maintaining full understanding among partners about how they can assist. The president mentioned that efforts are underway to close the funding gap for drone production and that new discussions with partners will take place soon.

He also announced that restoration and rescue work is being carried out in all affected areas. "Necessary assistance is being provided to the wounded," Zelenskyy added.

Russia Claims Success in Intercepting Drones

Meanwhile, Russia's Defense Ministry reported that its forces shot down seven Ukrainian drones overnight. This statement adds another layer to the ongoing conflict, showing both sides claiming success in their respective operations.
