Pantera Cancels Concerts Following the Passing of Ozzy Osbourne

The iconic metal band Pantera has made the difficult decision to cancel several shows in the wake of the passing of their long-time friend, the legendary Ozzy Osbourne. The Black Sabbath vocalist, who was a pioneer in the world of heavy metal, passed away at the age of 76 on July 22. His family shared the news with fans, marking the end of an era for music lovers around the globe.

Ozzy’s final performance with Black Sabbath took place in his hometown of Birmingham just weeks before his death. The show was a massive success, raising £140 million for charity and serving as a fitting farewell to one of rock's most influential figures. Among the performers at the event was Pantera, which included members Phil Anselmo, Charlie Benante, Rex Brown, and Zakk Wylde. They delivered powerful renditions of classic tracks such as "Cowboys from Hell," "Walk," "Planet Caravan," and "Electric Funeral."

Zakk Wylde, who had been the longtime guitarist for Ozzy and joined Pantera in 2022 when the band reformed, expressed deep sorrow over the loss. In a heartfelt message posted on social media, the band described Ozzy not just as a musical legend but as a close family member and mentor. They emphasized the deep bond they shared with him, both on and off the stage.

“We need time and space to grieve — to be with our families, our crew, and each other as we process and honour the life of someone who meant so much to us,” the statement read. As a result, the band has rescheduled two concerts and canceled three others to allow the members to mourn their friend.

The affected dates include shows in Gilford, Birmingham, and Virginia Beach, which have all been canceled. The July 20 show in Saratoga Springs has been moved to September 9, and the July 31 date in Holmdel will now take place on September 8.

In addition to the cancellations, Pantera released a tribute online expressing their deepest condolences to Ozzy’s wife, Sharon, and his children, including Jack and Kelly. “RIP @ozzyosbourne Thank you for all that you did for metal & Pantera. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Amy & Louis, we are so very sorry for your loss ❤️‍🩹,” they wrote.

Before the Back To The Beginning show, Zakk shared some cherished memories of Ozzy, highlighting their unique friendship. He recalled a funny incident during a tour in Tokyo, where he kept a bag of beer for emergencies. Ozzy, ever the mischievous character, approached him after a gig and asked for a drink. Zakk refused, warning that Sharon, Ozzy’s wife, was nearby. Instead, they met in the bathroom, where Ozzy quickly downed a can of beer before heading off to dinner.

Many celebrities also paid tribute to Ozzy following his passing. Sir David Beckham, Queen legend Sir Brian May, and the Gallagher brothers all shared messages of grief and respect. During their Wembley concert, the Gallagher brothers displayed a photo of Ozzy on the screen, honoring his legacy.

Ozzy’s family announced his passing with a heartfelt statement, saying he was “surrounded by love” when he died. They mentioned that he is survived by six children from his two marriages, including Kelly and Jack, who gained fame through the reality series The Osbournes. He also had another daughter, Aimee, with former X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne, and three other children with Thelma Riley.
