Rachel Recchia Speaks About Her Weight Loss Journey

Rachel Recchia Reflects on Her Journey Through Physical and Emotional Changes
Rachel Recchia, a former Bachelorette, has been opening up about the recent physical and emotional transformations she's experienced. In an Instagram Q&A session on Tuesday, July 29, the 29-year-old shared her thoughts on a question about her "weight loss routine."
"I want to address this because the comments I've received are a reminder of how little we often know about what someone is really going through," she wrote. "Everyone has seen a very small part of my life through a lens. I am constantly compared to a version of myself from a short time when, truthfully, I was really struggling."
Recchia continued, "Toward the end of last year, I also faced health issues that impacted my body in ways I couldn't control. Today I'm in a healthier place, both physically and emotionally. This is the last time I'll speak on it, love you all."
The Impact of Reality TV on Personal Choices
Recchia first captured the attention of Bachelor Nation when she competed for the affections of Clayton Echard on season 26 of The Bachelor in 2022. She later became colead of The Bachelorette season 19 alongside Gabby Windey, where she accepted a proposal from Tino Franco. However, the couple called off their engagement after Franco admitted to kissing another woman. Recchia then appeared on Bachelor in Paradise season 9 but ended the show single.
Before the spinoff aired, Recchia revealed she had undergone a breast reduction surgery and described feeling "totally calm" the morning of the procedure.
"I made my first appointment to find out more about breast reduction surgery when I was 17 years old. Ten years and a Bachelorette starring role later, at the age of 27, I finally did it," she shared. "I was ready. I had waited years for this. And the moment I opened my eyes and got off the table, I knew my life had changed - for the better. My body felt different. Lighter. For the first time in over a decade, I didn't have back pain (and I haven't since)."
A Personal Decision with Public Scrutiny
Recchia noted that her experience on the reality TV show made her desire for the procedure feel "more urgent." She emphasized that being able to get this life-altering surgery was a privilege.
"I decided to post about my journey on social media because, growing up, I never heard anyone talk about this procedure, and I felt so defeated by my body. Still, I was scared to hit post, thinking people would drag me for getting work done."
She added, "I've always been transparent about the other cosmetic work I've done, like fillers and Botox. This is no different. I'm supportive of women who want to change something to make themselves happy, even if it is only aesthetic. If it improves your life and well-being and happiness, I'm 100 percent behind that."
Looking Ahead
Recchia is set to appear alongside Echard on season 3 of Perfect Match, with the first six episodes premiering on Netflix August 1. The remaining episodes will drop weekly through the August 15 finale. As she continues to navigate her personal and professional life, Recchia remains focused on her well-being and the positive changes she has made.
