A Harrowing Experience in the Home

A victim from Mobile County is sharing her terrifying experience with NBC 15 News, revealing how she was attacked in her own home by an alleged MS-13 gang member. The incident has left her in a state of fear and anxiety, as she recounts the events that took place on a Saturday morning.

The accused individual, Elmer Antonio Amador, is facing charges of sexual abuse and burglary. According to the Mobile County Sheriff's Office, Amador is a Guatemalan national who is currently in the United States illegally. He also has a long history of arrests, which raises concerns about his presence in the country.

The Attack Unfolds

The woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, described the moment when Amador arrived at her home to deliver heavy equipment that her husband repairs. At the time, her husband was not present, leaving her alone. She claims that Amador immediately made an inappropriate move, putting his hand down her shirt and touching her in a way that was clearly unwelcome.

"I was terrified," she said, recounting the events. "He grabbed me in a bear hug, and I couldn't do anything."

She described how she tried to break free multiple times, but Amador kept holding her. He reportedly whispered disturbing things in her ear, causing her to become increasingly frightened. She managed to escape into the bathroom and lock herself in, but Amador was not far behind.

"As soon as I got the door locked, he was shaking it trying to get in," she said, expressing her fear and relief that she was able to find safety.

The Role of Pets and Law Enforcement

The woman’s dogs may have played a crucial role in keeping the intruder at bay. Her pets' protective nature likely contributed to Amador being arrested while still on the property.

"If it hadn't been for the good Lord, I would not be here," she said, reflecting on the close call she had.

Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch offered strong comments regarding the case. He stated that if the victim had owned a firearm, it could have led to a better outcome. “When someone comes in to sexually assault a woman in their home, they deserve every bit of it,” he said, emphasizing the severity of the crime.

A History of Legal Troubles

Amador has a troubling criminal record that spans several years. According to the sheriff's office, he was initially arrested at the border in 1989 and has avoided deportation for years. His record includes an indecent exposure arrest in Corpus Christi, Texas, 25 years ago, and an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon conviction in Irving, Texas, in 2013.

In 2014, he was charged with another aggravated assault while in Byrd Unit Prison in Huntsville, TX. Three years later, he was arrested at an ICE field office in Texas for an aggravated violent felony. Last February, Hattiesburg Police arrested him on controlled substance charges and disorderly conduct.

Questions About Immigration Status

The victim expressed frustration over why Amador has not been deported despite his numerous charges. “Why is he still here? Why did the cops not send him, deport him on the first charge? He's an illegal. Why did it take, what seven, seven charges?” she asked.

Jail records indicate that Amador is due in a Mobile County courtroom on the sexual abuse and burglary charges on Monday, August 4th. Additionally, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a hold on him at the jail, suggesting that his immigration status will also be addressed in the coming days.
