Product of the Week: Dr. Barbara Sturm Ceramide Drops

A Skincare Staple for Radiant, Healthy Skin
In an industry filled with countless product launches every day, it can be challenging to find the right skincare items that truly make a difference. That’s where the “Product Of The Week” series comes in—it highlights the products that our team has tested and trusted, helping you discover your next favorite beauty and wellness essential.
As someone with melanin-rich skin, I’ve always had a natural glow. However, maintaining that luminous look throughout the day has been a challenge. There are days when my skin feels dull, even after a morning routine of cleansing and moisturizing. I’m talking about that spa-like glow—like I just had a 90-minute facial with a lymphatic drainage massage. It’s that kind of radiance I aim for, and over time, I’ve learned that simplifying my skincare routine with effective products can make all the difference.
My beauty cabinet is full of serums, eye creams, hydrating moisturizers, exfoliating pads, and enough sunscreen to last through two seasons. But I’ve come to understand that using fewer products that contain powerful ingredients is more beneficial than overloading my skin. One such product that has recently become a must-have in my routine is Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Ceramide Drops Face Oil.
This multitasking face oil is made up of six different oils: argan, grape seed, jojoba, evening primrose, macadamia, and sweet almond. These work together to deeply moisturize the skin. Its vibrant orange color comes from astaxanthin, a potent antioxidant known for improving the appearance and feel of the skin. And of course, there are ceramides, which play a crucial role in maintaining healthy skin.
From what I remember from high school biology, ceramides are naturally present in the outermost layer of the skin. They act like the “glue” that holds skin cells together. As we age, our ceramide levels decrease, which can lead to drier, thinner, and more sensitive skin. This is especially true for those with melanin-rich skin.
Factors like lack of sleep, consuming salty foods, and aging have contributed to my occasional dullness. Dr. Sturm recommends using topical products rich in ceramides to strengthen the skin barrier, lock in moisture, and soothe irritation. She explains that this helps prevent inflammation, which can trigger hyperpigmentation and sensitivity.
When I first tried the Ceramide Drops Face Oil, I applied about three drops directly onto my freshly cleansed face and neck. There was an immediate brightness that enhanced my complexion. It reminded me of the glow I get from applying shea butter to damp skin after a shower. The lightweight formula allowed me to apply my moisturizer and sunscreen quickly without waiting too long. However, Dr. Sturm suggests waiting one to three minutes for the oil to fully absorb before applying SPF.
I later experimented with a method that Dr. Sturm demonstrated: massaging a nickel-sized amount of her Glow Cream with two to three drops of the Ceramide Drops Face Oil. The combination of the moisturizer’s fine pearl pigments and the hydrating oil gave me confidence each time I saw my reflection. At a recent concert, an older gentleman even asked if I was close to 40 because he said my skin looked too smooth.
After over a month of consistent use, I believe this product is definitely worth trying. My skin looks healthier, feels softer and plumper, and I’ve maintained that spa-like radiance throughout the day. While using it with other Dr. Sturm products enhances its effects, the Ceramide Drops Face Oil works well with other brands as well. If you’re looking to invest in one luxurious skincare product, start with this one.
