Band Members Face Health Challenges

An Australian pop duo, Royel Otis, recently canceled their performance at the Lowlands + Pukkelpop festival in Belgium and Germany. The decision came after one of the band members, Royel Maddell, experienced health issues that led to his collapse during a previous show.

Royel Otis is composed of musicians Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic. Their cancellation of the Aug. 17 event followed an incident on Aug. 15 when Maddell collapsed onstage during a performance at the MD Dockville festival in Hamburg, Germany. This event has raised concerns among fans and followers about the well-being of the band members.

Statement from the Band

Following the incident, the band shared a statement on their Instagram Stories, explaining the reason for the cancellation. They mentioned that Maddell had been unwell with a virus since the Hamburg show. The statement read: "We are really sorry to say that we need to cancel our set at Lowlands + Pukkelpop festival as Roy has been unwell with a virus since last night’s show in Hamburg." The band expressed their disappointment and hope to perform for their fans in the future.

Fans have taken to social media platforms like Reddit to share their experiences and reactions to the incident. One user described watching the show from the fourth row and recalled how Maddell fell and rushed off the stage after the band's third song. According to the user, the band played some jazz music during the incident, and then a privacy screen was put up.

Another fan shared their account of the event, stating that Maddell was carried back onstage by "two or three HAWXTECH" members and appeared visibly shaken while playing the next song. The fan described the experience as "torture" to watch.

Recent Releases and Tour Plans

Royel Otis released their debut studio album, Pratts & Prain, in February 2024. The album includes the singles “Adored” and “Fried Rice.” The band is also preparing for the release of their sophomore album, Hickey, scheduled for Aug. 22.

The duo previously canceled six shows on their North American tour in November 2024 due to an emergency involving Maddell's family. In a statement to fans, Maddell explained that he had to return to Sydney for personal reasons. He expressed his deep feelings about having to miss the shows and emphasized the necessity of being present for his family.

Upcoming Performances

Despite these challenges, Royel Otis is expected to perform at the Reading Festival in Reading and Berkshire and the Leeds Festival in Leeds before embarking on a North American tour. The tour will include stops in Philadelphia, New York City, Atlanta, Toronto, and other cities through October.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the band's return to the stage, hoping to see them perform again soon. The group has shown resilience in the face of adversity, and their dedication to their music continues to inspire their audience. As they prepare for upcoming events, the support from fans remains strong, reflecting the bond between the band and their followers.
