This sentiment has been highlighted in a recent survey involving 2,000 adults across the United States.

The poll revealed that 29 percent of those surveyed admire the French preference for fresh food over processed options, while an equal percentage appreciate their passion for the arts and cultural experiences. Additionally, 60 percent of Americans believe the French have a more favorable work-life balance compared to their own country, with only 10 percent holding the opposite view.

Another notable aspect of the French lifestyle that resonates with many Americans is their commitment to adhering to scheduled work hours. Over 22 percent of respondents respect this practice, and the same percentage value the idea of treating lunch breaks as sacred time. Enjoying high-quality cuisine and maintaining a sense of style are also among the qualities that attract admiration from Americans.

A significant portion of the population—22 percent—expresses a desire to incorporate certain elements of the French lifestyle into their own lives. These include a focus on food, engaging in hobbies and personal interests, and taking longer, more meaningful lunch breaks. Additionally, 21 percent of those familiar with the French way of life have adopted aspects of their romantic approach to relationships, while the same number have tried to embrace a more humble attitude.

A representative from the bakery brand St Pierre, which commissioned the study, shared insights about the broader appeal of the French lifestyle. They noted that the French way of life is widely admired and romanticized globally for its timeless charm. According to the spokesperson, there is a unique allure in the French approach to life, which emphasizes slowing down, prioritizing quality, and valuing experiences over material gains.

The French culture places a strong emphasis on moments of connection, such as sipping coffee at a sidewalk café, strolling through a local market, or spending time with family around a dinner table. These small but meaningful rituals contribute to a lifestyle that feels both sophisticated and grounded.

Interestingly, the research also found that 29 percent of Americans believe it is unlikely that the French admire any aspects of the American lifestyle. However, 42 percent of those surveyed would love to move to France permanently one day. When it comes to representing American food to other countries, 27 percent of respondents feel most proud to offer a meaty cheeseburger or fried chicken, while 26 percent are equally proud of barbecue ribs. Another 22 percent would be eager to showcase classic American apple pie.

Despite this pride, nearly one-quarter of those polled admitted they primarily learn about the French lifestyle through social media platforms like Instagram or TikTok, while 19 percent rely on YouTube for information.

St Pierre has also launched a humorous video aimed at encouraging American workers to adopt a more “French” approach to their lunch breaks. The campaign emphasizes the importance of taking time to eat with respect, recognizing that good food nourishes the soul. According to the spokesperson, there is a deep respect for boundaries when it comes to time off, and a clear understanding that proper breaks are not a sign of laziness, but rather essential for well-being and productivity.
