Orlando Motel Residents Forced Into the Streets

Families Facing Uncertain Future After Eviction from Orlando Motel
Travis and Nicole Weiand are preparing to move their belongings and three dogs from the Howard Johnson motel located at 5858 International Drive in Orlando. However, they are unsure of their next destination. Travis shared that he received a job offer at a hotel in Cocoa Beach where he can both live and work. But with no car and limited funds, the couple is struggling to afford a truck rental.
They are not alone in their uncertainty. A woman who chose to remain anonymous told WESH 2 News that she has no idea where she will go. She recently dropped off $500 at the motel front desk, only to find it locked and her money seemingly lost. This situation highlights the growing concern among residents facing eviction from the property owned by Rore Orlando I-Drive LLC.
The owner is evicting 60 families, affecting roughly 200 people who have been paying weekly for their stays. Local community groups are stepping in to assist these displaced individuals, but they describe the situation as rare. Many of the residents may be working in the hospitality industry, including jobs at attractions like Congo River Golf or in local restaurants and hotels.
Community organizations such as the Christian Service Center and the Coalition for the Homeless are providing food, toiletries, and guidance on finding shelter. However, they emphasize that more support is needed, particularly from the hospitality industry. Eric Gray, the Executive Director of the Christian Service Center, urged employers in the area to check their HR databases for employees living at the Howard Johnson motel and reach out directly.
Ronald Miller, a resident of the motel, expressed frustration with the situation. He said, “They deceived us!” Miller and his family have been staying there while he works at a local restaurant. Now, they are preparing to find a new place to live by Monday morning.
The city of Orlando has restored utilities that were initially cut off last week, but the deadline to vacate the premises is fast approaching. With the 10 a.m. deadline on Monday, time is running out for the residents.
Rore Orlando I-Drive LLC, the property owner, lists Croix Management Services LLC as the registered agent. According to Florida Division of Corporations records, the registered agent of Croix Management Services LLC is Schmuel Bonnardel of Jacksonville. In 2022, Bonnardel closed an America’s Best Inn in the Baymeadows area of Jacksonville.
WESH 2 News reached out to Bonnardel and plans to update the report once they receive a response. Meanwhile, it is important to note that Howard Johnson is a Wyndham brand hotel, but a spokesperson for Wyndham clarified that they do not own or manage the property on North International Drive.
As the situation unfolds, the community continues to rally together to support those affected by this unexpected eviction. The challenge now is to ensure that these families find stable housing and the necessary resources to rebuild their lives.
