Revealing the Answers

What is the spangram in today’s Strands?

The spangram for today’s puzzle is VEGETABLEGARDEN.

What are the theme words in today’s Strands?

The theme words are: - BLOSSOM - SEED - RIPEN - HARVEST - SPROUT - GROW

Here’s what the board looks like when the puzzle is solved:

How I Solved Today’s Strands

At first, I wasn’t entirely sure what the puzzle was referencing. It could be related to gardening, or maybe something else entirely. I noticed that some words like MOSS, EDGE, and TRADE didn’t fit the theme.

I found the word GROW along the upper right edge, which seemed to align with the idea of development. BLOSSOM was in the upper left corner, and I started to see a pattern of words that relate to growth and development.

I spotted VEGETABLE around the bottom left edge, which led me to realize the spangram must be VEGETABLEGARDEN. From there, I found SEED above it, then RIPEN, followed by HARVEST and SPROUT.

How to Play Strands

Strands is a game that combines elements of crosswords and word searches. The goal is to find hidden words within a grid of letters that reflect the puzzle’s theme. Each puzzle has a specific theme, such as “Better with age,” and the spangram is the most important word to identify.

What Is a Spangram?

The spangram is a word that directly states the puzzle's theme. For example, if the theme is “Better with age,” the spangram might be FERMENTED, which refers to products that improve over time. The spangram spans the entire board, either horizontally or vertically, and is highlighted in yellow once found.

Finding the spangram usually makes the rest of the puzzle easier to complete.

Rules of the Game

Words in Strands can be found in any direction—up, down, left, right, or diagonally. Each letter can only be used once. There is only one correct solution.

When you correctly identify a theme word, it will be highlighted in blue. If you struggle, you can submit non-theme words (as long as they are four letters or more) to earn credit toward a hint. After submitting three non-theme words, the “Hint” button becomes available, allowing you to see the letters of one of the theme words.

Winning the Game

Unlike other games like Connections or Wordle, Strands cannot be failed. Your guesses will either be correct, give you credit toward a hint, or result in a shake if the word is invalid or too short. There is no time limit, and you can keep trying as long as needed.

You win when you’ve correctly identified all the letters on the board, including the spangram and all the theme words. Upon completion, you’ll receive a shareable card showing your performance: blue dots indicate theme words you found, a yellow dot shows when you found the spangram, and a lightbulb indicates words you received hints for.
