NYC Shooter's Brain Examined After Second 'Suicide Note' Found Amid CTE Claims

Investigation into the NYC Shooter's Brain
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in New York City has announced that it will conduct an analysis of the brain of the shooter involved in the recent incident. This step is part of the broader investigation into the cause of death of 27-year-old Shane Tamura, as stated by the medical examiner’s office. According to sources with knowledge of the situation, Tamura left a note at the scene of the shooting requesting that his brain be examined and expressing concern about whether chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) could have contributed to his mental illness.
Chronic traumatic encephalopathy, commonly known as CTE, is a degenerative brain disorder that results from repeated head trauma. The Mayo Clinic describes it as a condition that progressively worsens over time, leading to the death of brain nerve cells. Symptoms associated with CTE include cognitive issues, difficulties with planning, organizing, and completing tasks, memory loss, and changes in mood and personality that can lead to impulsive or aggressive behavior, depression, and suicidal thoughts.
Additional Findings in the Case
In addition to the note found at the scene, investigators have discovered a second note at Tamura’s Las Vegas home that matches the tone of the one found in New York. This discovery was reported by NBC News, based on information from two senior law enforcement officials involved in the case.
The shooting occurred on Monday evening when Tamura opened fire inside a high-rise corporate building at 345 Park Ave in midtown Manhattan. Four individuals were killed, including a security guard, an executive at Blackstone, an employee of a real estate firm, and an off-duty New York City police officer. After the attack, Tamura took his own life using a firearm.
Mayor’s Comments on the Incident
During a Tuesday television appearance, Mayor Eric Adams provided some insight into the shooter’s intentions. He stated that Tamura appeared to be targeting the NFL but ended up in the wrong elevator bank. “He seemed to have blamed the NFL. The NFL headquarters was located in the building. And he mistakenly went up the wrong elevator banks,” Adams said in an interview with PIX11.
Adams explained that in many corporate buildings, specific elevator banks are required to reach certain floors. “He went on the wrong elevator bank, which took him to Rudin Management. And that is where he carried out an additional part of his horrific shootings,” Adams added.
Details About the Shooting
According to authorities, Tamura used the elevator to reach the 33rd floor during the attack. The fifth floor of the building houses the NFL’s registered address. It is also noted that Tamura only played football in high school.
Ongoing Investigations
Detectives from the New York Police Department are currently traveling to Nevada to investigate the actions of the alleged shooter prior to the fatal incident. Tamura was a resident of Las Vegas. New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed that two teams of investigators were sent to Nevada on Tuesday to interrogate Tamura and execute a search warrant at his residence.
