Major Changes to NJ Transit Schedules Begin on August 24

Starting Sunday, August 24, NJ Transit is implementing several significant changes to its train schedules. These updates may affect commuters traveling along the Northeast Corridor Line and the North Jersey Coast Line, as well as other routes across the state. Here’s a detailed look at what’s changing.

Weekday Eastbound Trains from Newark/New York

One of the most notable changes involves Train 3200, which departs from Long Branch at 12:14 a.m. This train will now terminate at Newark Penn Station and be renumbered as Train 5200. Commuters from Secaucus and New York will need to transfer to Train 3800 at Newark. The new schedule shows that Train 5200 arrives at New York Penn Station at 2:09 a.m.

Another change affects Train 5800, which was previously scheduled to depart from Trenton at 1:11 a.m. This service will no longer operate. Instead, passengers can take Train 3800, which leaves Trenton at 12:42 a.m. Additionally, the Princeton Dinky Line’s Train 4102 will now depart at 12:44 a.m., 29 minutes earlier, to better connect with Train 3800.

Train 3800 has also been updated to stop at Rahway, Linden, Elizabeth, and Newark Airport. Meanwhile, Train 3704 continues to stop at Newark Airport, while Train 3812 no longer does. A new late-night service from New Brunswick to New York has been introduced, departing at 10:51 p.m. This train will make stops at New Brunswick, Edison, Metuchen, Metropark, Newark, Secaucus, and New York stations.

Several other trains, including 3704, 3812, 3714, 3326, and 3506, have had their departure and arrival times adjusted by less than five minutes.

Weekday Westbound Trains from New York/Newark

On the westbound side, Train 3209, which originally departed from Penn Station at 4:28 a.m. for Long Branch, will now make a stop at Secaucus Junction. Train 3809, which was set to leave New York for Trenton at 4:13 a.m., has been rescheduled to depart at 4:41 a.m. and will now stop at Jersey Avenue.

Train 3813, previously scheduled to leave New York for Trenton at 4:59 a.m., has been moved to a later departure time of 5:14 a.m. and will no longer stop at Jersey Avenue. Similarly, Train 3727, which was set to depart from New York for Jersey Avenue at 5:50 p.m., has been rescheduled to leave at 5:41 p.m.

Two additional trains, 3871 and 3963, have been restored. Train 3871 departs New York for Trenton at 5:50 p.m., and Train 3963 departs at 7:07 p.m.

Passengers from Secaucus and New York will transfer to Train 7800 at Newark, which will arrive at New York Penn Station at 2:09 a.m.

Train 5800, previously departing from Trenton at 1:11 a.m., will no longer operate. Instead, passengers can take Train 7800, which departs Trenton at 12:42 a.m. The Princeton Dinky Line’s Train 4102 will also see an earlier departure time of 12:44 a.m. to better connect with Train 7800.
