The Power of Mindfulness in Self-Reiki

When engaging in self-Reiki without being fully present, individuals often miss out on the deeper healing that arises from a genuine, loving connection with themselves. Incorporating mindfulness into Reiki practice allows for a more profound experience. It encourages slowing down, listening, and receiving, transforming self-Reiki from a routine activity into a meaningful and immersive experience.

Mindfulness during Reiki helps individuals pay attention to their physical sensations, emotional states, and the flow of energy within them. By being mindful, one becomes more aware of subtle changes and is better able to release emotional or physical tension. This heightened awareness fosters a deeper understanding of oneself and cultivates a sense of support, not just from the Reiki energy but also from one’s own compassionate presence.

Practicing self-Reiki with mindfulness is a sacred moment to return to oneself, reset the nervous system, and nurture self-love. It offers a space for reflection, healing, and growth.

How to Practice a Mindful Self-Reiki Session

You don’t need any special tools or equipment to begin a mindful self-Reiki session. All you need is a few quiet moments, your hands, and a willingness to be fully present.

Prepare Your Space and Set Your Intention

Find a quiet and comfortable place where you can sit or lie down. Close your eyes and take three deep breaths. Then, silently or aloud, say to yourself, “I am open to receive healing. I choose to be present with love and curiosity.”

Activate Reiki

Bring your hands together in Gassho, a traditional hand position used in Reiki. Invite the Reiki energy to flow through you. If you have been attuned to Reiki, visualize or speak the symbols mentally or aloud. If not, simply call upon healing energy with the intention of supporting your highest good.

Begin at the Crown

Place your hands gently on the top of your head. Focus your attention on the sensation of your hands, your breath, and the energy beneath them. If thoughts arise, observe them without judgment and gently return your focus to your breath and hands.

Move Through the Hand Positions Slowly

Proceed to the traditional hand positions: crown, eyes, throat, heart, solar plexus, abdomen, hips, knees, and feet. Spend a few minutes at each position, allowing the energy to flow naturally.

At every position, pause and reflect on the following:

  • What do I feel here?
  • What emotions or thoughts are present?
  • Is there any tension or sensation in this area?

You don’t need to fix anything; simply become aware and let Reiki flow through you.

Stay Aware of the Breath

Let your breath guide you throughout the session. Keep it soft and natural. If your mind wanders, gently bring it back to the rise and fall of your breath and the warmth of your hands.

Close with Gratitude

When you’re ready to end the session, bring your hands back to your heart. Express gratitude to yourself, to the Reiki energy, and to this moment. Take another deep breath and open your eyes slowly.

This practice doesn’t require a long time commitment. Even 10 minutes of mindful self-Reiki can make a significant difference. The more frequently you show up with presence, the easier it becomes to carry that peaceful awareness into the rest of your life. You deserve this time. You are worth showing up for.
