Wesley LePatner: A Leader and Community Advocate

Wesley LePatner, 43, was a Senior Managing Director at Blackstone and a devoted mother and wife. She had spent over a decade working in the real estate division at Blackstone and previously worked for Goldman Sachs. LePatner graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Yale University and served on several influential boards, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the UJA-Federation of New York. Her contributions to philanthropy were widely recognized, and she was honored with the Alan C. Greenberg Young Leadership Award in 2023.

LePatner's life was marked by her dedication to community and her commitment to Jewish values. She led a solidarity mission with UJA to Israel following October 7 and instilled a deep love for Judaism in her two children. An autopsy revealed that she was shot in the torso. She is survived by her husband and their children.

Didarul Islam: A Heroic NYPD Officer

Didarul Islam, an off-duty NYPD officer, was also among the victims. He was a father of two and his wife was expecting their third child. Islam, 36, was an immigrant from Bangladesh and had served on the force for three and a half years. He was assigned to the 47th precinct and was working a private security detail at the time of the shooting.

An autopsy showed he was shot in the torso and left upper extremity. His body was transferred to a mosque in the Bronx, where a solemn procession took place, with traffic held on FDR Drive to honor his memory. The NYPD and FDNY lined the streets to salute him, acknowledging his service and sacrifice.

Aland Etienne: A Dedicated Security Officer

Aland Etienne, 46, was identified as a dedicated security officer by 32BJ SEIU President Manny Pastreich. He was known for taking his job seriously and was remembered as a hero. His partner, Rachel Paoli, is the mother of their son, who will turn 7 this weekend. Etienne’s brother, Gathmand, shared a heartfelt message on social media, describing him as a father, a son, and a light in their lives.

An autopsy confirmed that Etienne was shot in the torso. His death has left a profound impact on his family and colleagues, with the union expressing its support for his loved ones during this difficult time.

Julia Hyman: A Rising Star

Julia Hyman, 27, was another victim of the shooting. According to her LinkedIn profile, she worked as an associate at Rudin Property Management. She graduated from Cornell’s Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration in 2020 and was remembered by her alma mater as an extraordinary student. Cornell Dean Kate Walsh praised her determination, warmth, and commitment to learning.

Hyman is survived by her parents and her sister Ali, who graduated from Cornell in 2017. The Rudin family expressed their condolences and emphasized the importance of unity in the face of such tragedies.

The Injured NFL Employee

In addition to the four fatalities, a 41-year-old NFL employee was seriously injured in the attack and is currently hospitalized in stable condition. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell issued a memo to staff, expressing gratitude for the swift response by law enforcement and honoring the memory of Officer Didarul Islam. Employees in New York were instructed to work remotely or take the day off, with additional security measures in place.

The Suspect and Investigation

Investigators believe that Shane Tamura, a resident of Las Vegas, was the individual responsible for the shooting. According to Mayor Eric Adams, Tamura was attempting to reach the NFL offices after shooting several people in the building's lobby but mistakenly entered the wrong set of elevator banks. Police have indicated that Tamura had a history of mental illness, and a note found on his body suggested a grievance against the NFL related to a claim of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain disease that can only be diagnosed posthumously. Tamura played high school football in California but never reached the NFL.
