As we step into a new school year and celebrate our 140th anniversary as a school district, I want to take a moment to speak directly to our parents and families. This is an opportunity to share what you can expect from Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) and how we are preparing students for success—both in the classroom and beyond.

Keeping the Focus on Academic Success

Academic excellence remains at the heart of everything we do. One of our primary goals is to ensure that every child is reading at grade level by third grade. This is a crucial milestone that strongly predicts future academic and life success. However, our commitment doesn’t end there. We are aligning our curriculum with the real-world skills needed in Miami’s key industries such as healthcare, aviation, finance, and technology. This means more hands-on learning experiences and stronger community partnerships, helping students see the direct connection between their education and the world they will one day enter.

Supporting the Whole Child: Mind and Body

This year, we continue to prioritize the well-being of every student. Telehealth services are now available for all students and their families, providing access to both medical and mental health care from Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., throughout the year. By connecting students with healthcare professionals quickly, we help remove barriers to traditional healthcare and support their overall wellness. Whether it's a routine check-up or a conversation with a mental health specialist, assistance is just a click away. Healthy students are better learners, and we are dedicated to supporting every aspect of your child’s well-being.

More Choices, More Flexibility for Every Family

We are proud to be a choice district, offering families access to a wide range of exceptional programs beyond their neighborhood schools. From performing arts to cybersecurity, robotics to early college, our School Finder tool on dadeschools.net makes it easy to explore what’s available.

This year, we’re introducing a new option: families who homeschool or attend private schools can now enroll in individual M-DCPS courses, such as languages and advanced sciences. This flexible, customizable approach allows us to support your child’s education, even if they are not enrolled full-time.

Harnessing the Power of AI Responsibly

Artificial Intelligence is here, and we are embracing its potential. Tools like Gemini for Teens allow students to explore how AI can enhance their thinking and creativity rather than replace it. Teachers are also using AI to personalize instruction, create lesson plans, and measure learning more effectively. When used wisely, these tools open new opportunities for students who are preparing for college and careers.

New College Pathways Start in High School

We are excited to expand our early admission partnerships with Miami Dade College, giving students a head start on higher education while still in high school. Imagine your child entering senior year already earning college credits and graduating ready for a degree and a career. These pathways provide valuable opportunities for students to build a strong foundation for their futures.

How We Prepared This Summer—So Students Can Thrive This Fall

Summers are anything but slow in M-DCPS. At our Synergy Conference, over 300 professional development sessions brought together thousands of educators to plan, grow, and align their efforts. The theme was "Coherence," ensuring that every student receives consistent, high-quality instruction regardless of where they are in the district. This focus on alignment has helped us maintain an "A" rating for the sixth consecutive year and has placed our district among the top 10 in Florida.
