Merrimack Woman Charged After High-Speed Chase and Crash

A woman from Merrimack, New Hampshire, was set to appear in court on Monday after being accused of driving at a high speed without headlights on Interstate 93. The incident occurred late Friday night when a state trooper spotted an SUV traveling northbound on the highway without its lights illuminated. The driver, later identified as Heather Lewis, 34, failed to stop when the officer attempted to pull her over.

The trooper pursued the vehicle, which eventually took Exit 17 off the highway. The SUV crashed through a steel gate that blocked a Class IV road and into a field on private property. The vehicle then collided with a state police cruiser.

Lewis was arrested on multiple charges, including reckless conduct, resisting arrest or detention, criminal mischief, reckless operation, disobeying a police officer, speeding more than 25 mph over the limit, and operating a vehicle without lights. She was held on preventive detention and was scheduled for arraignment in Concord District Court. No injuries were reported during the incident.

After a brief interaction, the driver, Aaron Thurber, 21, reportedly sped away. Spike strips were deployed, deflating one of the car’s tires. Thurber then drove into a construction worker in a work zone. The vehicle crossed over to the northbound side of the highway, and the chase continued. Eventually, Thurber veered off the road, struck an embankment, and rolled the Jetta. He was taken to Concord Hospital with pending charges of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, reckless operation, and disobeying a police officer.
