A Glimpse into McLaren’s Future: New Video Reveals Mystery Models

A recently released video has given the automotive world its first look at what appears to be a new development from McLaren. The clip, captured in Spain, offers an unusually close and detailed view of what may be a variant of the McLaren Artura. Unlike the model that has been available since 2022, this version seems to have several noticeable differences, leading to speculation about whether it is a facelift or a prototype for a more performance-oriented model.

Two Mysterious Models Under Scrutiny

What makes this video particularly intriguing is the level of access the videographer had to the two test vehicles. Unlike typical spy shots, the footage shows the cars from multiple angles, with close-up views and even movement along roads where they were being tested. This level of detail raises questions about whether the sighting was intentional or simply a fortunate accident.

The two models appear to be quite different from each other, but both show signs of modification compared to the standard Artura. Neither vehicle exhibits significant changes in bodywork behind the rear axle, suggesting they are not longer than the current model. However, there are clear alterations in design elements such as the side vents, doors, and fender vents. These changes include reshaped vents, modified door lines, and a shift from three slats to two on the fender vents.

Perhaps the most striking difference is the new hood. While the current Artura features a flat hood, the one seen in the video has a large vent that extends down toward the front air duct. This feature appears to be movable, possibly opening and closing while driving. Its unfinished appearance suggests that McLaren is still refining the design and purpose of this component. The placement of the vent also hints that it might eliminate the frunk of the Artura, pointing towards a track-focused version of the car.

Different Details Between the Two Vehicles

Each of the two test cars has unique features. One is equipped with the distinctive hood vent, while the other has a visible rear spoiler and covered hood pins. These variations suggest that McLaren could be testing different levels of performance enhancements, possibly exploring various configurations for future models.

A Recently Updated Model?

Adding to the mystery, the Artura received updates just this year. McLaren introduced a convertible version and increased the power output by 19 horsepower, bringing the total to 690 horsepower from the 3.0-liter V6 and hybrid system. The company also made chassis improvements for the new model year.

During the Spider launch in Monaco last year, we asked Artura Programme Manager Michael Norrington about the potential for new versions of the Artura. He acknowledged that making a supercar faster is straightforward, but questioned whether it would enhance the driving experience. “I could take the Artura and give it more downforce tomorrow,” he said, referring to a common feature of longtail models. However, he emphasized the importance of balancing performance with driver experience.

Norrington remained cautious about the possibility of an LT model, stating, “There are too many variables to make a concrete statement on that.” Nevertheless, he confirmed that the Artura platform is not yet at its engineering limits, suggesting that McLaren is likely working on something faster in the near future.
