Update on Assault at Pikes Peak Cog Railway

Manitou Springs police have provided additional details regarding an assault that occurred at the Pikes Peak Cog Railway on Saturday. The suspect, Randy Blevins, is currently facing charges of Second Degree Assault related to the incident in the cog railway’s parking lot. According to police, Blevins was initially held at the El Paso County jail but managed to post bond by Monday afternoon.

According to arrest documents obtained by 11 News, multiple witnesses reported that employees repeatedly asked Blevins and his wife to leave the business's parking lot. Blevins claimed he and his wife had hiked the Manitou Incline earlier that morning and were crossing through the parking lot to reach a gift shop. He told police that one employee instructed them to leave, but they continued walking through the area. Blevins stated that a second employee approached him from behind and grabbed the back of his shirt. He alleged that the employee then punched him in the head, prompting Blevins to punch the employee in return.

However, witness accounts suggest a different version of events. The documents state that employees reportedly tried to escort Blevins off the property after informing him he was trespassing. Witnesses said they were certain they did not see the employee hit Blevins, but they did report seeing Blevins strike the employee in the face and then hit him twice more.

As of the latest update, the victim remains in the hospital in critical condition. The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information or footage of the incident to contact El Paso County Dispatch at 719-390-5555.

Blevins is scheduled for his next court appearance on Friday.
