Kelsey Gorder, a resident of the building, shared her experience with FOX 13. She heard the gunfire and then a scream. "That’s awful. I mean this is a place where kids live. Kids live here. But, it’s on 85th and Aurora. You can’t expect anything less unfortunately," she said.

FOX 13 crews also observed a man being detained at the scene, though it was unclear if he was connected to the robbery investigation. Perry Debusk, another neighbor, mentioned, "They were searching this guy over there, and they took him in the car."

Concerns from Local Families

Two young fathers living in the building expressed their concerns about the safety of their children. Omar Dakhil, a father, said, "I just want better for everybody." Daniel McCraw, another resident, added, "We want the best for our kids. We have people camping on the sidewalks. We can’t bring our kids outside there’s shootings."

Residents have pointed out that the John Fox Place building was intended to provide affordable housing and access to essential services. However, they have recently faced challenges both inside and outside the building. Lynn Morrow Zamalloa noted, "It’s upsetting. I hear ambulances all the time, police cars."

Omar Dakhil emphasized the need for change, stating, "We are young fathers just doing our best to help alleviate this crisis. I’ve seen it all and I want it all to end sooner than later."
