A Tragic Shooting and the Guilty Plea

An 11-year-old girl was tragically killed in a wrong-house shooting that led to a guilty plea from one of the suspects. Isaac George, 26, entered his plea during his trial, avoiding the possibility of facing the death penalty. As part of the agreement, George will receive a sentence of 40 years to life in prison.

The incident occurred on November 1, 2018, when George and four other men targeted a house they mistakenly believed belonged to a rival gang. The shooting resulted in the death of Angelina Erives, an 11-year-old girl who was inside the home at the time.

George pleaded guilty to several charges, including murder with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and discharging a firearm at or into an occupied structure. Prosecutors alleged that George used a rifle to fire a bullet into Erives’ head.

After George made his plea, a moment of emotional reconciliation took place outside the courtroom. His family and the victim’s family met in the hallway and shared tearful embraces. Anabel Sarabia, Erives’ mother, expressed her gratitude for the gesture, stating, “It’s not their fault. We hold no hate in our hearts.”

Dion George, Isaac’s father, extended his condolences to the Erives family, acknowledging the pain they had endured. He said, “I can only imagine what they must have gone through. They lost a little girl.”

The plea came on what would have been the 12th day of the trial. Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Schwartzer noted that the decision to accept the plea was aimed at providing a substantial sentence that approximated a life sentence for the victims' family.

Assistant District Attorney Pamela Weckerly emphasized the importance of bringing closure to the case. She said, “We hope we can bring some closure for the victim’s family.”

Defense attorney Lisa Rasmussen expressed relief at resolving the case. She mentioned that the decision was difficult for George, as the sentence was significant. Her goal was always to ensure there was hope for his release in the future.

Rasmussen also pointed out that while there was no clear intent to kill in the shooting, there was an intent to send a message. She added that George may not be certain if he was the one who fired the fatal shot, as Erives was hit by multiple bullets.

As part of the plea deal, George admitted that he and others fatally shot Erives “willfully, unlawfully, feloniously, and with malice aforethought.” He acknowledged that the killing was deliberate and premeditated.

During the trial, getaway driver Erin Hines testified that the group traveled to North Las Vegas for the shooting. Three individuals, including George, exited the car with guns and began firing. According to prosecutors, 43 bullets were fired during the incident.

Hines agreed to testify in exchange for a sentence of 15 to 45 years. Other individuals involved in the shooting have already received long prison sentences. Jarquan Tiffith was sentenced to 35 years to life, and Damion Dill, who was a minor at the time, received a 20- to 50-year sentence.

Guy Lee Banks III was also a suspect but was fatally shot by a neighbor who fired at the getaway vehicle.

George’s sentencing is scheduled for September 17. Anabel Sarabia, Erives’ mother, said, “Nothing will ever be enough for what he did to us, but I’m just happy it’s over.”

This tragic event highlights the devastating impact of mistaken identity and the consequences of violent actions. The legal process has concluded, but the emotional scars will remain for the families involved.
