Madelyn Cline Shares Her Thoughts on Love and Relationships

Madelyn Cline, the 27-year-old actress known for her role in Outer Banks, has had a series of high-profile relationships throughout her career. From dating comedian Pete Davidson to being linked with her co-star Chase Stokes, Cline has experienced the ups and downs of love in the public eye. Recently, she shared some of her insights on love during an exclusive interview while promoting her new movie, The Map That Leads to You.

Cline spoke to HAWXTECH at the premiere of her latest film in Charleston, South Carolina, on August 10. During the conversation, she was asked about the best love advice she’s ever received. Her response was both honest and reflective.

“Best love advice. I dunno. Fall in love, don’t be afraid of it,” Cline said. “Look, historically, I haven’t been, like, the most successful [at love], so don’t take advice from me until I figure it out.”

Despite her own challenges in love, Cline emphasized the importance of embracing vulnerability. “But yeah, my advice is don’t be afraid to fall in love,” she added.

A History of High-Profile Relationships

Cline’s relationship with Pete Davidson was one of the most talked-about in recent years. The two were linked from September 2023 until their split in 2024. While she has remained mostly quiet about the details of their relationship, she did make a brief comment about their time together during an interview with Allure for their July cover story.

“The jokes, they write themselves. And I said it before, and I’ll say it again, that is my only comment,” Cline told the outlet. She later added, “He has a really cute dog and some really great girlfriends now.”

Before Davidson, Cline dated Chase Stokes, her Outer Banks co-star. The pair first met in 2019 and went public with their relationship in 2020. Their romance lasted just under two years before they parted ways in 2021.

Navigating Public Relationships

Cline has spoken openly about how dating in the public eye affected her life. In a March 19 episode of Jake Shane’s Therapuss podcast, she reflected on the impact of her relationship with Stokes.

“I think at the time I didn’t realize what the repercussions [were] of inviting so many people into something, let’s be honest, something that’s intimate,” she said. “I didn’t understand. I was just so in love. And, you know, people loved it. I think they loved it because of us, but they also loved John B and Sarah, first and foremost,” she added, referring to their characters in Outer Banks.

She continued, “You look at any public breakup and so many people are invested, and of course that was really hard. And also, we still, to this day, share a very, very big… this huge thing that is a massive part of both of our lives. So, I think, yeah, it was really hard to separate, but also like any breakup, you grow out of it, which is great.”

Cline also admitted that the public nature of her relationship made it difficult to maintain her sense of self. “For sure there was a period of time there where I truly did not know which way was up, which way was down because that — Outer Banks and that public relationship, was kind of my identity. And I was like, ‘Who the f--- am I?’ I’m still figuring that out,” she said.

New Film and Future Plans

Cline’s latest project, The Map That Leads to You, is a romantic adventure film that follows a young woman who plans to travel across Europe before settling into a perfectly planned life. However, her journey takes an unexpected turn when she meets a guy (played by KJ Apa) who changes everything.

The film also stars Sofia Wylie and Madison Thompson. The Map That Leads to You will premiere on Prime Video on August 20. As Cline continues to explore new roles and personal growth, her journey through love and fame remains a topic of interest for fans and media alike.
