A recent immigration raid at a Home Depot store in California has intensified existing tensions in Los Angeles, drawing attention from local officials, labor unions, and the public. The incident, which was captured on video and shared widely on social media, shows federal agents loading into a Penske truck early in the morning. The footage, accompanied by a caption indicating the time of the event as 6:40 a.m., has raised concerns about the methods used during such operations.

The Office of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass strongly condemned the raids, emphasizing that they may be in violation of a recent court ruling. In a statement, the mayor’s office highlighted the potential for these actions to be unconstitutional, particularly when they involve racial profiling or targeting individuals at their workplaces. “These tactics are dangerous and un-American,” the statement read. “The city is gathering information about these reported raids and considering all legal options. However, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) responded with criticism of Penske, pointing to a previous instance where the company's trucks were allegedly used in a human smuggling ring. DHS shared a screenshot of a Fox News story highlighting this past issue, suggesting that Penske’s current stance may be hypocritical. “Care to remind the American people what Penske said when this happened? Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli also weighed in, suggesting that immigration enforcement in Southern California could increase in the coming days. He stated on social media, “For those who thought immigration enforcement had stopped in Southern California, think again.” Essayli emphasized that the enforcement of federal law is non-negotiable and that there are no sanctuaries from the reach of the federal government.

According to DHS officials, the raid led to the arrest of 16 individuals from Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua who were living in the country illegally.
