Liverpool transfer updates: Hato in Chelsea talks, new Diaz bid expected

Liverpool Faces Challenges in Key Transfer Battles
Liverpool's summer transfer plans have encountered significant obstacles as two major targets are now under threat. On one front, Chelsea has made a strong move to secure the services of Ajax defender Jorrel Hato, while on the other, Bayern Munich is intensifying its pursuit of winger Luis DÃaz. These developments have placed Liverpool in a difficult position, with uncertainty surrounding both potential signings and key players.
Chelsea Moves In for Jorrel Hato
Jorrel Hato, a 19-year-old Dutch talent, has been the subject of months of speculation linking him to several Premier League giants, including Liverpool and Arsenal. However, it seems that Chelsea has now taken a decisive step forward in the race for his signature. The Blues have officially contacted Ajax, signaling a major development in negotiations.
Hato’s agent, Humphry Nijman, confirmed the club-to-club contact, stating that Hato is now in talks with Chelsea. Reports suggest that personal terms have already been agreed upon in principle, with a fee around £50 million likely to be sufficient to finalize the deal, despite Ajax’s initial valuation being closer to £60 million.
Chelsea views Hato as a long-term replacement or backup for left-back Marc Cucurella, especially with uncertainties surrounding the future of Renato Veiga and Ben Chilwell. Veiga is expected to join Atlético Madrid for around £35 million, while Chilwell’s departure remains a possibility.
Hato has made 111 senior appearances for Ajax, scoring goals and showcasing versatility as both a centre-back and left-back. He was crowned Eredivisie Talent of the Year for 2024-25 and has earned six caps for the Netherlands national team.
Despite interest from Liverpool and others, Hato previously downplayed any rush to leave Ajax, stating, “Ajax is home for me… I still have plenty of time.” However, with negotiations underway and personal terms nearly finalized, it appears that Chelsea will secure the deal soon.
Bayern Munich Pursues Luis DÃaz
Meanwhile, Liverpool continues to reject Bayern Munich’s initial bids for winger Luis DÃaz. The German club has offered around €67.5 million, but Liverpool has dismissed the offer, reiterating that DÃaz is “not for sale” at current valuations.
DÃaz, 28, has expressed a desire to leave and has asked Liverpool to accept an improved offer unless they deliver on a previously discussed contract extension. Bayern is now preparing a new approach, reportedly ready to submit a €80 million offer, which aligns more closely with Liverpool’s valuation and could trigger serious discussions.
According to The Athletic’s James Pearce, Liverpool has yet to receive any improved offer, and DÃaz has trained normally during the Hong Kong tour, with no signs of discord or recent injury issues. There are no ongoing discussions about a replacement involving Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, who is not viewed as a target regardless of DÃaz’s exit.
Liverpool remains firm in its stance, emphasizing that DÃaz is valued and that only a bid matching their €100 million valuation, supported by concrete interest in a suitable replacement, may change their position. Until such developments emerge, the situation remains unresolved.
New Arrivals for Liverpool
In addition to these challenges, Liverpool is set to welcome another arrival. Hugo Ekitike is expected to be the next player through the door for the Reds. This follows reports of open talks to sign Rodrygo, although no official confirmation has been made.
As the summer transfer window progresses, Liverpool will need to navigate these complex situations carefully. The club must balance its ambitions in the market while ensuring the stability of its squad. With potential departures and new signings on the horizon, the coming weeks will be crucial for the Reds.
