Lady Gaga's Mayhem Ball Hits Inglewood

A Night of Opera and Pop at Lady Gaga’s Mayhem Ball
Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters had a night to remember on Monday as the pop icon kicked off the first of four shows for her Mayhem Ball at Inglewood’s Kia Forum. The event, which draws inspiration from the classic tale “The Phantom of the Opera,” offered fans an immersive experience that blended theatrical elements with high-energy performances.
“Welcome to the Opera Haus,” Gaga greeted the crowd, who had gathered in full support of their beloved artist. The show was a tribute to her nearly 20-year career, featuring a mix of new and old hits that resonated with fans of all generations.
A Five-Act Spectacle
The Mayhem Ball is structured into five acts, each telling a unique story through music and performance. The stage was transformed into an opera house, with intricate sets and costumes that reflected the dramatic themes of the show. Gaga took on dual roles, embodying both the Phantom and the leading lady, showcasing her versatility as a performer.
The concert opened with a powerful rendition of “Bloody Mary” from her 2011 album Born This Way. The song, once considered a deep cut, gained mainstream popularity after being featured in the Netflix series “Wednesday.” The viral dance routine performed by actress Jenna Ortega inspired countless TikTok videos, making it a fan favorite.
As the energy in the venue grew, Gaga transitioned into her hit “Abracadabra,” turning the arena into a full-blown party. The performance highlighted her ability to captivate audiences with both her vocal prowess and dynamic stage presence.
A Journey Through Her Career
While the tour coincides with the release of her seventh studio album, Mayhem, Gaga made sure to include songs that resonated with longtime fans. For those who have followed her since her 2008 debut album The Fame, she performed hits like “Just Dance,” “LoveGame,” and “Summer Boy.” Fans also enjoyed classics such as “Alejandro,” “Poker Face,” “Paparazzi,” “Born This Way,” and “Shallow.”
In addition to her well-known tracks, the show featured newer material, including “Garden of Eden,” “Zombie Boy,” “Shadow of a Man,” and “Killah.” These songs added a fresh dimension to the concert, showcasing her evolution as an artist.
For the first 90 minutes, the audience remained energized, even during costume changes. The band and dancers kept the momentum going, ensuring that the energy never waned.
Emotional Moments and Sentimental Reflections
As the concert progressed, the tone shifted to something more personal. Gaga performed “Million Reasons” and “Shallow” from her 2018 film A Star Is Born. She then sat at the piano to deliver a heartfelt performance of “Die With a Smile,” her collaboration with Bruno Mars.
After the emotional segment, Gaga shared a moment of vulnerability with the crowd. She admitted that she was nervous about how the show would be received on a Monday night. “You all f–king showed me,” she said, prompting laughter from the audience.
She then reflected on her journey, sharing how she moved from New York City to Los Angeles at just 19 years old to pursue her dreams. “It wasn’t always easy. I want to thank everyone in this room tonight. People didn’t always believe in me, but you believed in me so much,” she said, fighting back tears.
A Special Dedication
Gaga performed “Vanish Into You” from Mayhem, a song she usually dedicates to her fans. This time, however, she asked the audience to share it with her two nieces, who were in attendance. “They said this was their favorite song. I always dedicate this to the fans. Will you share it with them tonight?” she asked. “I can’t do it without my family. One day I’ll just vanish into each and every one of you.”
As the song ended, she walked around the perimeter of the audience before disappearing backstage.
An Unforgettable Finale
No Lady Gaga show would be complete without her 2009 hit “Bad Romance.” Just when fans thought the concert was over, the lights remained off, and a camera captured Gaga removing her makeup backstage while singing “How Bad Do You Want Me?” Her dancers joined her one by one, and the party continued with a surprise encore of “Swine” from her 2013 album ArtPop.
The show concluded with a final message from Gaga: “I love you L.A., now get the f–k out!” She ran backstage as the crowd cheered.
The Mayhem Ball will return to the Kia Forum on July 29 and then on August 1 and 2. Fans interested in attending can find tickets and more information at Ticketmaster.com.
