Kelly Ripa’s Absence and the New Faces on Live With Kelly and Mark

The long-running talk show Live With Kelly and Mark has taken a different turn recently, as Kelly Ripa has been away from the set. The 54-year-old TV personality has been enjoying a well-deserved summer vacation, with several guest hosts stepping in to keep the show running smoothly. Among them are Jackie Tohn, Jenna Dewan, and Rita Ora, who have all brought their own unique energy to the program.

Kelly last appeared on the show on August 1, and since then, her husband, Mark Consuelos, has been managing things alongside the rotating guest hosts. During a recent episode, Mark shared a heartwarming story about his first meeting with Jackie Tohn, highlighting how she immediately made an impression.

A Heartfelt Moment Between Mark and Jackie

During Monday’s episode, Mark recounted his initial encounter with Jackie, saying, “When Kelly and I got done meeting you and walked off, we said, ‘Wow, she would be a great fill-in.’” Jackie responded with emotion, saying, “Really? That makes me want to cry. Thank you.”

Jenna Dewan, known for her role in Step Up, also shared her experience after appearing on the show. In an Instagram video, she described it as “the most fun day.” She expressed her excitement about being part of such a dynamic and enjoyable environment.

Kelly’s Return and the Show’s Roster of Guest Hosts

Kelly is set to return to the show on August 11, following a week-long break. While she was away, Mark took a short vacation himself, which Kelly mentioned was spent working on a show in Los Angeles. During this time, she welcomed a variety of notable guests to fill in for Mark, including news anchor David Muir, actor Jerry O’Connell, reality TV star Carson Kressley, and radio personality Steve Patterson.

David Muir’s appearance on July 29 was particularly memorable, as the audience cheered for him during his time on the show. When he joked about being there to see Mark, Kelly reassured the crowd, “They'll survive, they'll survive today.”

Considering the Future of the Show

Kelly has occasionally spoken about the possibility of retiring from the show, even seeking advice from talk show legend Oprah Winfrey. On the Let's Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast, she asked, “I've been at the talk show now for 25 years, so I'm asking for a friend. How did you know it was time to step away?”

Oprah responded firmly, saying, “First of all, it's not time for you to step away. And I, if I were advising you, I would say absolutely not.” She encouraged Kelly to continue using her platform, emphasizing the importance of the community she has built over the years.

A Long and Successful Career

Over the years, Kelly has had several permanent co-hosts, including Regis Philbin, Michael Strahan, and Ryan Seacrest, before her husband joined her in 2023. When asked about Kelly’s future plans, the Riverdale actor, Mark Consuelos, said, “She's been at that for 23 years. I don't think it's gonna be anytime soon. I know she's having a good time, I'm having a really, really good time. But at some point, yeah.”

He added, “When she does decide to walk away, no one's earned it more than her. She's been working her butt off since she was like 12 or 13 years old, and she got into the business at 18, and so it's been a long ride. [But] she's having a blast now.”
