Johnny Manziel Joins 'Special Forces: World's Toughest Test' for a New Challenge

Johnny Manziel, the former NFL quarterback known for his electrifying college football career, is stepping away from the gridiron to take on a new challenge. He has been confirmed as one of the cast members for season four of the popular FOX show Special Forces: World's Toughest Test. This program brings together celebrities and athletes who are put through intense physical and mental challenges designed to test their limits. The goal is to identify individuals who possess the qualities needed to become part of the United States' special operations forces.

Manziel is among 18 competitors, many of whom have impressive athletic backgrounds. His inclusion in the show highlights his continued desire to push himself beyond traditional sports. The former Cleveland Browns quarterback, who once dazzled fans with his talent, now seeks to prove his resilience in a completely different setting.

Manziel rose to fame during his redshirt freshman year at Texas A&M in 2012. He quickly became one of the most exciting players in college football, leading the Aggies to numerous victories and ultimately winning the Heisman Trophy. However, his professional career did not go as smoothly. Selected by the Browns with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, he struggled to find consistent success at the pro level. After being released in 2016, his career took a sharp downturn, marking a dramatic fall from grace.

In addition to Manziel, several other former NFL players will appear on the show. These include wide receivers Eric Decker and Randall Cobb, as well as long snapper Andrew East. Other contestants come from diverse backgrounds, including reality TV stars, actors, and public figures. Notable names such as Jussie Smollett, Teresa Giudice, Gia Giudice, Eva Marcille, Kody Brown, Brittany Cartwright, Jessie James Decker, Shawn Johnson East, Mark Estes, Chanel Iman, Brianna "Chickenfry" LaPaglia, Ravi V. Patel, Christie Pearce Rampone, and Nick Young will also be part of the competition.

This isn’t the first time ex-NFL stars have appeared on the show. Last season, Cam Newton, a former Carolina Panthers quarterback, was disqualified after failing an interrogation challenge. In a recent appearance on the 4th and 1 podcast, Newton reflected on why he chose to participate. “The common question with doing this show has been: Why did you do it?” he said. “And I keep coming back to the same thing: I wanted a challenge in my life.”

Newton described the experience as a way to reconnect with the intensity and competitiveness that defined his football career. “There's times being a pedestrian, and I say this jokingly, but being a regular person in the normal, everyday life, you forget about really what made you great,” he explained. “Those emotions, that dark side, that fearlessness of, like, I can go into that person, I can go into that character, and it takes little to no effort. I need a reason.”

He added that the show provided a unique outlet for the built-up tension that many athletes carry. “During the show, I've had opportunities to do that, and it made me realize a lot of built-up tension that a lot of athletes mask for the rest of their lives.” Newton described the experience as both exhilarating and emotionally draining. “There was fearful moments, there was scared moments, there was uncertain moments, there was anxious moments. There was anxiety, there was excitement, there was rage. There was just fulfillment, there was joy, there was happiness. The adrenaline—I have not had nothing in real life after football that meets that.”

As Manziel and the other contestants prepare for the challenges ahead, fans are eager to see how they will perform. Whether they succeed or struggle, the show offers a rare opportunity for athletes to step out of their comfort zones and rediscover their competitive spirit.
