Jeremy Allen White and Jeremy Strong Shine in New 'Springsteen' Movie Clips

A New Chapter in Bruce Springsteen’s Story
New York has once again become the center of attention as the King of New Jersey, Bruce Springsteen, takes his place in Hollywood. The highly anticipated biopic “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” is set to hit theaters on October 24, and it features two Emmy-winning actors—Jeremy Allen White (“The Bear”) and Jeremy Strong (“Succession”)—in leading roles. The film recently unveiled its first trailer, generating a lot of excitement among fans and critics alike.
On July 29, Disney shared additional footage from the movie with a select group of journalists. This event was part of a broader showcase of upcoming films from the studio, including “Avatar: Fire and Ash” scheduled for December 19 and “Tron: Ares” set for October 10. The presentation offered a glimpse into the creative process behind these upcoming projects and highlighted the diverse range of stories Disney plans to tell.
Focusing on a Specific Chapter
The “Springsteen” clips were introduced in a prerecorded message by writer/director Scott Cooper, who explained his vision for the film. Cooper emphasized that the project would not be a traditional biopic but rather an exploration of a specific chapter in Springsteen's career—the creation of his 1982 album “Nebraska.”
“This was never about telling the whole story of Bruce Springsteen,” Cooper said. “I wanted to focus on something darker and more introspective, capturing the essence of that particular period in his life.”
In one of the clips shown, Bruce (played by White) is seen sitting at a Manhattan diner with his manager, Jon Landau (Strong), looking disheveled and withdrawn. He expresses the difficulty of returning home after a tour, saying, “It’s hard to come back home after touring.” Landau responds with words of encouragement, reminding him that coming off the road has never been easy and that time will help.
The scene continues with the two men walking down the block, where a passerby shouts, “Love you, Bruce!” Landau smiles and says, “I’ll tell you, hit singles aren’t so bad.”
Flashbacks and Emotional Depth
Another clip offers a flashback to Bruce’s childhood, showing his father (Stephen Graham) pointing to a large house and promising that “all your problems will disappear” if you have money. The scene transitions to an adult Bruce strumming his guitar, with White delivering an uncanny performance of “Mansion on a Hill.”
Although White may not look exactly like Springsteen, his vocal performance and emotional depth could be enough to earn him recognition during the awards season. His portrayal captures the soulful essence of the rock icon, making the character feel authentic and compelling.
Other Upcoming Films
Throughout the hourlong presentation, Disney also showcased rough footage from the animated sequel “Zootopia 2,” set for release on November 26. Additionally, a new trailer for “Predator: Badlands,” starring Elle Fanning, was revealed. The film is scheduled for November 7.
James L. Brooks, known for creating iconic works such as “The Simpsons” and “Broadcast News,” was present alongside Jamie Lee Curtis to share clips from their family drama “Ella McCay,” set for December 12. The film follows a rising legal star, played by Emma Mackey, as she navigates personal and professional challenges. The cast includes Woody Harrelson, Ayo Edebiri, Kumail Nanjiani, and Jack Lowden, marking Brooks’ first film in 15 years.
Brooks praised Curtis, calling her “everything you could ever want her to be.” Curtis, who plays Ella’s aunt Helen, described the experience as “life-changing” and joked about working with Brooks, mentioning the word “throuple” in a lighthearted manner.
A Star-Studded Lineup
Curtis also shared her thoughts on being part of the film, noting that she was initially nervous but now feels deeply connected to the project. She humorously referenced her past roles as a “replacement part,” citing examples from “Knives Out” and “Freaky Friday.”
