Investigators Can't Rule Out Foul Play in Missing California Baby Case

Investigation into the Disappearance of 7-Month-Old Emmanuel Haro Unfolds

Authorities in San Bernardino County are currently investigating the disappearance of a 7-month-old boy, Emmanuel Haro, and have not ruled out the possibility of foul play. The case has raised concerns among family members, friends, and the local community as they search for answers.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening when Rebecca Haro, the baby’s mother, reported being attacked by a stranger while changing her son’s diaper near her car at a Big 5 Sporting Goods store in Yucaipa. According to Rebecca, she was approached by an individual who said “Hola” before she lost consciousness. When she awoke, she found herself on the floor and noticed that Emmanuel was missing.

Deputies from San Bernardino and Riverside counties responded to the scene, launching a thorough search with the help of K-9 units and helicopters. Despite these efforts, no trace of the infant was found. The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division conducted interviews with multiple individuals, including both parents, Jake and Rebecca Haro. During these interviews, investigators noted inconsistencies in Rebecca's initial account of the events and reportedly confronted her about them. Following this, Rebecca declined to continue speaking with detectives.

At this stage, the investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have stated that foul play cannot be ruled out. The case has sparked concern among the community, especially after the involvement of the child’s grandmother, Mary Beushausen, who emphasized that the couple deeply loves their son and would never harm him. She also mentioned that the authorities asked Rebecca to take a lie detector test, but her husband refused to do so until legal counsel was involved.

Court records reveal that Jake Haro has a criminal history, though the specific nature of his alleged offenses remains unclear. This detail has added another layer of complexity to the investigation.

An AMBER Alert has not been issued because the criteria for such an alert require a suspect or vehicle description, which is currently lacking. However, friends and family have taken it upon themselves to assist in the search. On Friday night, they began their own search efforts, and by Saturday, authorities had searched the couple’s home in Cabazon, reportedly using cadaver dogs.

Jake and Rebecca Haro have publicly pleaded for the safe return of their son. In emotional statements, Jake urged whoever took Emmanuel to return him safely, assuring that they would not seek retribution. Rebecca, in tears, begged anyone with information to come forward and help bring her son back.

Emmanuel is described as approximately 24 inches tall and weighing around 21 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes, and is cross-eyed. He was last seen wearing a black Nike onesie.
