Bray Wyatt’s Role in WWE 2K22’s MyRise Mode

Bray Wyatt, a prominent figure in the world of professional wrestling, was set to play a significant role in WWE 2K22’s MyRise mode before his departure from WWE. This development highlights the importance of his character within the game’s narrative structure.

Andrea Listenberger, the Associate Lead Narrative Designer at WWE 2K, recently shared insights into how Bray Wyatt was intended to be integrated into the game. During an interview with HAWXTECH Senior Editor Matt Black, she discussed the plans for Wyatt’s involvement in the MyRise mode, which is designed to allow players to create and develop their own wrestling personas.

Two Separate Storylines for Bray Wyatt

According to Listenberger, Bray Wyatt was scheduled to appear in two distinct storylines within the game. One storyline was planned for the men's division, while the other was set to focus on the women's division. These storylines were meant to showcase Wyatt’s influence across different areas of WWE, emphasizing his versatility as a character.

“I came on board kind of midway through [2K]22,” Listenberger explained. “They were somewhat outlined. The men's division storyline was a little bit more outlined. I believe the women's division, my memory is… There was the idea, there was at least the idea that there was a women's division storyline.”

Writing the Storylines

Listenberger took on the task of writing the women’s division storyline for Bray Wyatt, while another writer handled the men’s division. This collaboration aimed to ensure that both storylines were well-developed and aligned with the overall vision of the game.

“I remember I wrote that… I wrote the women's division storyline, and then one of our other writers wrote the men's division storyline,” she said. “So, I wrote the [2K]22 one, which was wild because, when we were working on [2K]25 one and I was pulling lines from the [2K]22 one. I was like, ‘Wait a second. Wait a second. I wrote this.’ And there were some lines where I was like, ‘Hey, I did okay.’ And there were other lines where I was like, ‘Huh,' I could tell that I wrote this three years ago when I was learning how to write for video games for the very first time.”

Legacy and Impact

Despite being removed from WWE, Bray Wyatt’s contributions to WWE 2K22 remain a part of the game’s legacy. His inclusion in the MyRise mode reflects the depth of his character and the impact he had on the wrestling community. The storylines crafted for him were not only a testament to his significance but also a reflection of the creative process behind developing such content.

The fact that Listenberger revisited her earlier work while creating content for a later game shows the evolving nature of storytelling in video games. It also underscores the importance of maintaining consistency and quality across different projects.

Conclusion

Bray Wyatt’s planned role in WWE 2K22’s MyRise mode illustrates the intricate process of integrating real-world wrestling figures into digital experiences. His presence in both male and female storylines demonstrates the breadth of his influence and the potential for diverse narratives within the game. As the industry continues to evolve, the lessons learned from these experiences will undoubtedly shape future projects and storytelling approaches.
