A Heartfelt Reunion: Israeli Singer Meets the Medic Who Saved His Life

Israeli singer and actor Idan Amedi had a deeply emotional moment during his concert in Jerusalem, as he reunited with a combat medic who had saved his life after he was injured in Gaza. The unexpected meeting left both Amedi and the medic, Tuvia Book, visibly moved, highlighting the power of human connection and gratitude.

Amedi, known for his role in the popular TV series “Fauda,” suffered serious injuries in January 2024 while serving in the Combat Engineering Corps reserves in Gaza. An explosion that was reportedly caused by friendly fire injured several soldiers, including Amedi. At the time, he was rushed to medical care, where Tuvia Book played a crucial role in saving his life.

The two met again on Saturday night at the Hutzot Hayotzer Festival in Jerusalem, where Amedi was performing. During the concert, an audience member informed him that the same medic who treated him in the field was among the crowd. Without hesitation, Amedi left the stage and made his way to the barriers where Book was standing.

As they embraced, the audience erupted into cheers and applause. Amedi urged the camera crew to show Book on the large screens behind the stage, expressing his deep appreciation. “I love you,” he told the visibly emotional medic. “I will never be able to thank you enough. Let me just give you a hug.”

Book, who is the oldest combat medic serving in the Gaza Strip, shared his experience with Channel 12. He mentioned that he attended the festival because IDF service members were allowed entry for free. “There were thousands of soldiers there, and we were all enjoying ourselves when suddenly, Idan Amedi said, ‘I hear there’s a medic here who treated me,’ and I said, ‘Whoa, is that me?’”

Book recalled how he raised his hand, and Amedi immediately ran toward him. “He said, ‘I’m coming!’ and ran to me,” he added.

At the time of the incident, Book and his team had no idea who Amedi was. They placed a medical bracelet on him that simply read “anonymous, 27 years old.” Book, a Jewish educator, serves with the reserve combat medical extraction unit Palmar Asaf. In September 2024, he wrote about his experiences in Gaza for the Times of Israel Blogs, describing the intense challenges faced by medics in war zones.

“Unless you have been in a war zone, it is hard to describe the experience,” he wrote. “Once we put on the IDF uniform, we are here for one purpose, and one purpose alone: to defend our homeland from the scourge of Hamas. We are all focused on what we have in common, and not what divides us.”

Amedi made a full return to the stage in February 2025, with a sold-out show in Jerusalem more than a year after his injury. During the performance, he spoke openly about his experience, saying that he felt like he had lived “a whole life in one year.” He described the trauma of being wounded, noting that the shrapnel had missed his spinal cord by just two millimeters.

Since then, Amedi has sold over 60,000 tickets for an upcoming nine-show tour across Israel. Earlier this year, he announced that he would not be returning for season 5 of the Netflix hit “Fauda,” citing his ongoing recovery and personal priorities.

This heartfelt reunion between Amedi and Book not only highlights the bond formed between those who serve but also serves as a powerful reminder of the impact one act of kindness can have in the most challenging of circumstances.
