A Terrifying Encounter During a TikTok Trend

A homeowner in Pasadena shared a harrowing experience after falling victim to a dangerous TikTok trend that left her and her 12-year-old son terrified. Candice Knight, who recently moved to the area, described how two teenagers kicked in her front door "donkey style" during the early hours of the morning, creating a frightening situation.

Knight recounted the incident to 11 News, explaining that it was around 3 a.m. when she was jolted awake by loud noises. “It was 3 o'clock in the morning, and I woke up to 'boom, boom, boom, boom, boom,'" she said. The sound of the door being kicked repeatedly sent her into a panic, and she immediately called 911.

The event was captured on her doorbell camera, which showed a teenager using a mule kick to mimic a popular TikTok trend. At the time, Knight and her son had no idea what was happening. “I was petrified, and I called 911, and we ran upstairs, and I had to hide my son in his closet, and I grabbed a knife,” she explained. “My first thought was (it was a) home invasion. 'What are they going to do to us? What are their intentions?'”

Christian, her son, also expressed his fear during the encounter. “I was thinking someone was trying to get in and rob us,” he told 11 News. “I hid in a closet and I was, like, really scared.”

The damage caused by the teens was significant, with a footprint left on the door and costly damage to the doorframe. Anne Arundel County police have since arrested two boys, aged 13 and 14, for their involvement in the incident. Authorities are warning children about the potential dangers of participating in such trends, as one never knows how a person might react to what sounds like a home invasion.

“They may think this is a funny prank. It's anything from it. It's far from a prank,” said Justin Mulcahy, a police spokesman. “We don't want this to escalate into any type of violence, or even worse, any type of tragedy.”

Knight and her son had only been in Pasadena for three months when the incident occurred. She expressed gratitude that one of her neighbors heard the banging and started yelling, which she believes scared off the teens. “They are just kids, and they are just doing some dumb stuff. They can get themselves in a lot of trouble,” Christian added.

Knight also questioned how parents could be unaware of where their children were at such an hour. “How do you not know where your children are at 3 a.m.?” she asked.

Police were able to catch the teens quickly with the help of surveillance video and K-9 units. The case highlights the growing concern over the influence of social media trends and the need for increased awareness among both parents and teenagers.

As the community continues to process the incident, it serves as a reminder of the real-world consequences that can arise from seemingly harmless online challenges. Authorities are urging parents to stay vigilant and to have open conversations with their children about the risks associated with participating in viral trends.
