Managing Your Book Inventory

As you explore the charming locations in Tiny Bookshop, you'll be selling a wide variety of books to different customers. However, it's inevitable that your inventory will eventually run low. You can't simply replace books with decorations, as people are looking for reading material. This means you'll need to focus on purchasing new books and restocking your shelves effectively.

One of the most important aspects of managing your bookshop is deciding which genres to stock and where to place them. But beyond that, there may be times when you want to increase your collection to ensure your customers have access to their favorite titles and some extra options. Expanding your inventory is part of the process of running a successful bookshop.

How to Replenish Your Stock of Books

The primary way to buy new books for your shop is through the Bookstonbury Review. During the tutorial days, you’ll gain access to this newspaper, and each day it will offer a selection of four book bundles for you to purchase. Some of these bundles are themed rather than genre-specific, but they often hint at the types of books you might receive. For example, romance-themed bundles may include Drama or Fantasy books, or both.

The prices of these bundles vary, and most of the time, you'll get a random selection of genres. However, there are also bundles that specify a theme or genre, such as one related to Mediterranean Travel. These bundles guarantee a large quantity of the specified type, making them ideal if you need to stock up on a particular category.

In addition to the bundles in the newspaper, you can occasionally buy book bundles from vendors at the weekly Flea Market. This event always takes place on Saturday, and each vendor has a chance to offer a book bundle with their goods. Tilde is the most likely vendor to carry these bundles.

Once you reach Autumn, you’ll unlock St. Bookston University. While there, you can pick up around one to three random books from the ground, giving you a few free books. The Autumn-specific Gothic Vendor will also carry a bundle of mostly Crime books that you can buy for 50 Coins. Notable characters like Fern and Anne may also occasionally offer to sell you books as you build relationships with them.

During Winter, the Festive Merchant at the Winter Market will offer a bundle of books. These seasonal bundles are time-limited and won’t return until next year once the season ends.

How to Restock Books

Most of the time, you’ll need to restock your shelves after a day of selling. To do this, enter the Restocking Menu after selecting a location for the day. Each location you visit will have preferred genres, and sometimes you’ll need to bring specific genres to a location to earn a Stamp, even if it’s not necessarily what the location prefers.

To restock, select the genre you want to place and left-click and drag across the bookshelf to start placing books. You can also place books one at a time by clicking on empty spaces. If you don’t like your setup or want to make changes, you can remove books by right-clicking each one or holding right-click and dragging across a row.

Depending on the type of shelf you have, between eight and ten books can fit in a single row. The size of the books is randomized, so a larger book still only counts as one slot. The Storage Bin bookshelf, which has eight slots, is an easy way to achieve Stamp goals requiring you to sell your entire stock, even without bringing the preferred genres for a location.

You can restock any genre you like and customize how many of them you want to sell. However, the minimum number of books needed to start a day is determined by how many bookshelves you have. A good strategy is to maintain a ratio of 70 to 80 percent of the genre a location prefers, with 30 to 20 percent from other genres based on what has boosted sales from decorations and recommendations.

If you're running low on a specific genre and haven't been able to replenish it, focus on selling to locations that don't prefer that genre and don’t stock it as an extra. This helps you rebuild your inventory over time.

How to Get More Space for Books

Initially, you start with a single bookshelf that holds 40 books. Additional shelves can be acquired in two main ways: purchasing furniture items that meet the criteria of a bookshelf from the weekly Flea Markets or buying them from the seasonal section of the Bookstonbury Review.

The first additional shelf you’ll unlock is the Storage Box, available from Tilde’s Shop at the Flea Market once you complete her quest to bring her boxes to the event. It provides eight additional spots for books.

As you progress through the seasons, you’ll unlock more types of shelves. The Antiquated Shelf becomes available for 450 Coins once Winter hits, and once you get to know Walter better, he’ll also have one available at the weekly Fish Market.
