Houston Methodist Maintains Top Spot in Texas Hospital Rankings
U.S. News & World Report has released its 2025 rankings of the best hospitals in Texas, and the results highlight the strong healthcare infrastructure in the state. Houston continues to stand out as a leader in medical excellence, with several institutions earning top honors.
Houston Methodist Hospital has once again claimed the title of the No. 1 best hospital in Texas for the 14th consecutive year. It also secured the top spot in the metro area, reinforcing its reputation as a premier healthcare provider. In addition to this achievement, eleven other Houston-area hospitals made it into the statewide top 35, showcasing the city’s robust healthcare network.
Every year, U.S. News evaluates over 580 hospitals across Texas to determine which meet its high standards for quality care. The evaluation process includes ranking hospitals in 15 different specialties such as cancer care, cardiology, heart and vascular surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, psychiatry, rehabilitation, diabetes and endocrinology, and more. These rankings help patients and families make informed decisions about their healthcare needs.
Houston Methodist not only topped the state rankings but also made the prestigious Honor Roll list. This exclusive list includes 20 medical centers that are recognized as the “best of the best” in the nation. Houston Methodist is the only Texas hospital to earn this distinction, highlighting its exceptional commitment to patient care.

In addition to its overall ranking, Houston Methodist excelled in multiple specialties. It ranked among the top 20 hospitals nationwide in 11 of the 15 specialties evaluated. The hospital also received national recognition for its outstanding programs in gastroenterology/GI surgery, pulmonology and lung surgery, and diabetes and endocrinology.
Elsewhere in Houston, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center continued its dominance as the No. 1 best cancer hospital in the nation for the 11th year in a row. This consistent ranking underscores the institution's leadership in cancer research and treatment.

- No. 5 – Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital
- No. 6 – Memorial Hermann Hospital
- No. 8 – Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital
- No. 9 – Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital
- No. 12 – Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital
- No. 13 – Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center (tied with Baylor Scott and White All Saints Medical Center - Fort Worth)
- No. 21 – Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital (tied with Methodist Hospital - Stone Oak in San Antonio and Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth)
- No. 25 – HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake in Webster (tied with St. Luke's Health - The Woodlands Hospital, Baylor Scott and White Medical Center - Round Rock-Lakeway, and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano)
- No. 29 – University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston (tied with Medical City Plano)
