Major Road Construction and Maintenance Projects in Missouri and Illinois
Several road construction and maintenance projects are currently underway across Missouri and Illinois, affecting various routes and communities. These projects aim to improve infrastructure, enhance safety, and accommodate increasing traffic demands.
Bollinger County
Work to improve the Route 34/51 intersection in Marble Hill will begin the week of July 14, weather permitting. During the first phase, motorists will use Magnolia Street and Crown Street to bypass the work zone. The project will include upgrading the existing intersection to better accommodate tractor trailers and large vehicles by widening and increasing radii at the intersection.
Route N in Bollinger and Cape Girardeau counties will be reduced to one lane with an 11-foot width restriction as crews perform scrub seal and add shoulders. This section is located between Route 51 in Bollinger County and Route 25 in Cape Girardeau County. Work will take place from Monday, June 16 through Friday, August 29, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
Butler County
Route 158 will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction from Route 160 to Route 142 near Harviell on Friday, August 15 through September 11, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily for pavement repairs.
Route 142 in Butler County will also be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction as crews perform pavement repairs. This section is located from Route 53 to Route HH near Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Weather permitting, work will occur from Monday, July 21 through Friday, September 12, from 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
MoDOT plans to improve the intersection of Route M and County Road 459 in Poplar Bluff. The project will involve flattening the crest of the hill to improve sight distance along Route M and its intersection with County Road 459. Construction could start as early as spring 2026, with the road closed around the intersection for about two months.
Cape Girardeau County
Route OO will be closed between County Road 375 and County Road 379 near Gordonville as MoDOT crews perform core drilling operations. Work will take place from Monday, August 4 through Thursday, August 7, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
The city of Cape Girardeau says Lappe Cement will be barricading Janet Dr., near Alma Schrader Elementary School, Brookwood Dr. to Randol Ave. for local traffic only for street repairs starting the week of July 7. This project should be completed by August 15.
The Lexington/Perryville intersection will fully close on Saturday, July 7. Workers will remove old concrete and place new concrete as part of the Lexington Avenue Improvement project. Local drivers should avoid the intersection and use alternate routes. For through traffic, a detour will be marked along Route W/Bouton in addition to the one on Kingshighway/Cape Rock that is already in effect.
Route 61 in Cape Girardeau County will be reduced to one lane as contractor crews repair drainage systems. The section that will be reduced is located between Brittany Drive and Wilson Road. Lane closures will take place between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., but workers will be at the work zone around the clock. The work will start on June 30 and last until October 31.
Crews will be working on the Sunset Drive bridge replacement project in Jackson from Tuesday, June 17 to Saturday, September 13. The project will require a full road closure for one block from N. High Street/Highway 61 to Brookview Street. Barricades and closure signs will be put up in the area to remind drivers of the closure. Detour signs will be posted nearby with East Deerwood Dr. being the primary detour from Greensferry Road to N. High St.
Dunklin County
MoDOT plans to reduce Route 164 to one lane with an 11-foot width restriction between Route 412 in Cardwell to Route 61 in Steele as contractor crews perform pavement overlay and shoulder grading. This will take place starting at 6 a.m. on Monday, August 11, with completion anticipated on Monday, February 2, 2026.
MoDOT plans to replace three bridges in the county with work starting as early as June 2025. Those bridges include: the Route N bridge over Drainage Ditch 35, located between County Road 541 and Route Y, and the Route 164 bridges over Deering Drainage Ditch and Lateral Ditch 4, located between Route TT and Route PP. During construction, the road will be closed in the area of each bridge for about 3 months.
Madison County
Route 72 will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction from Pine Street in Ironton to West Main Street in Fredericktown on Monday, April 7 through Wednesday, October 1 from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Crews will be resurfacing the roadway and adding shoulders.
MoDOT plans to replace a bridge located on Route 72 over Turkey Creek between County Road 529 and Route K. Work to replace the bridge could begin as early as spring 2026. Construction will be staged to allow the roadway to remain open as work is underway. Short-term closures are anticipated during traffic shifts and as beams are set.
Mississippi County
Northbound I-57 in Mississippi County will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs. This section of roadway is located from mile marker 10.8 to mile marker 12 near Charleston, Missouri. Weather permitting, work will take place from Monday, August 25 through Thursday, September 4 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. The work zone will be set-up for 24 hours a day.
Southbound Interstate 57 in Mississippi County will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge repairs. This section of roadway is located from mile marker 21.4 to mile marker 20.6. Weather permitting, work will take place from Monday, August 18 to Tuesday, August 26 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Route OO in Mississippi County will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction as contractor crews perform asphalt overlay. This section of roadway is located from Route BB to County Road 525 near East Prairie, Missouri. Weather permitting, work will take place from Tuesday, July 1 through Friday, August 1 from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. While work is underway, flaggers will be in place to guide traffic.
New Madrid County
Route U in New Madrid County will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction as contractor crews perform asphalt overlay. This section of roadway is located from Route WW to County Road 730 near New Madrid, Missouri. Weather permitting, work will take place from Monday, August 12 through Saturday, August 31 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. While work is underway, flaggers will be in place to guide traffic.
Route D will be closed as contractor crews replace the bridge over Drainage Ditch Number 1. This section of roadway is located between Route JJ and Route W near Catron, Missouri. Weather permitting, work will begin on Monday, July 7 with completion anticipated on Monday, December 1. This road will remain closed until the work is completed and a signed detour will be in place.
Pemiscot County
MoDOT plans to reduce Route 164 to one lane with 11-foot width restriction between Route 412 in Cardwell to Route 61 in Steele as contractor crews perform pavement overlay and shoulder grading. This will take place starting at 6 a.m. on Monday, August 11, with completion anticipated on Monday, February 2, 2026.
Route O from County Road 559 to County Road 561 near Cooter will be closed on Tuesday, July 29 through Thursday, October 2. Crews will be replacing a box culvert under the road.
Perry County
MoDOT contractor crews will begin construction on the Don Welge Memorial Bridge over the Mississippi River the week of September 4. The project will build a new bridge that spans the river and connects Perryville, Mo. and Chester, Ill. via MO Route 51/IL Route 150. No major impacts on traffic are anticipated at this time. The project completion date is set for December 2026.
Missouri Route 51 will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction on the Chester Bridge that crosses the Mississippi River. The restricted lanes of traffic will be from County road 946 to E. Kaskaskia Street in Chester, Illinois. The work will start on Monday, July 21 at 7:30 a.m.
Scott County
The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to improve two bridges in Scott and Cape Girardeau Counties. The bridge projects include replacing the Route C bridge over St. John’s Drainage Ditch, located between County Road 407 and County Road 425 east of Morley, Missouri in Scott County. It also includes rehabilitating the Route BB bridge over Caney Creek, located between County Road 476 and County Road 481 in Cape Girardeau County. Work to improve the bridges could begin as early as February 2026. During construction, the roadway will be closed in the vicinity of each bridge. The Route C closure is anticipated for approximately three months, and the Route BB closure is anticipated for approximately two months. Maps, plans, and other information prepared by the Missouri Department of Transportation will be available for public inspection and copying at MoDOT’s Sikeston District office, 2675 N. Main St. in Sikeston, Missouri.
Ste. Genevieve County
Route B will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction from Route 32 to Route F near Coffman on Monday, June 2 through Friday, August 29. The work zone will be marked with signs and temporary signals will be used to direct traffic. Crews will be working on asphalt and curve repairs and the bridge rehabilitation projects over Mill Creek and Madden Creek.
St. Francois County
MoDOT plans to replace the box culvert on Route 221 over Brewers Creek. This structure is located between Shy Road and County Road 39C. Work could begin as early as summer 2025. As construction is underway, the road will be closed near the structure for about 3 months.
Crews will also be performing pavement repairs on Route 221 in St. Francois and Iron Counties starting Monday, July 28. The road will be reduced to one 12-foot lane while the work is being done.
Stoddard County
MoDOT plans to replace three bridges in Mississippi, New Madrid and Stoddard Counties as early as May 2025. The bridges to be replaced include: Route E bridge over Little River Drainage Ditch 251, located between County Road 628 and Route HH in New Madrid County; Route 102 bridge over Black Bayou, located between Route YY and Big Oak State Park entrance in Mississippi County; Route O bridge over Drainage Ditch 287, located between County Road 349 and County Road 371 in Stoddard County.
Wayne County
MoDOT plans to repair a joint on the southbound lanes of the Route 67 bridge over the St. Francis River. The bridge is located near the Old Greenville Recreation Area at Lake Wappapello in Greenville, Mo. During construction, southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane near the bridge. Northbound traffic will not be impacted. Tentatively, MoDOT says the project is expected to be awarded to a contractor in December 2024. Construction could begin as early as spring 2025. Weather permitting, repair work will be underway for about 90 days.
Illinois
Alexander County
KYTC says deck railing work on the U.S. 61 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge was finished on Friday, February 28 and the road is clear. The bridge may be used as a detour, particularly for commercial vehicles, during the upcoming I-24 Ohio River Bridge rehab project.
Franklin County
Public Works Coordinator Craig Miles says the water main project north of BCHS (including Burkett, McCann, Smith, and Lawrence Streets) will begin on Tuesday, May 27. Construction is estimated to go through August. Local traffic only during construction.
Jefferson County
According to a Jefferson County, Ill. advisory, asphalt milling is scheduled to take place on Fairfield Road from Stinson Drive to County Farm Road starting on June 24. They ask drivers to use caution in the area and watch for workers and equipment or use alternate routes. All work is weather permitting.
Overnight ramp and lane closures on the Interstate 64 bridge over Illinois 37 will start on May 28. The closures will take place overnight. The eastbound lane of I-64 at the 80 m.m. just east of Mt. Vernon will close. The entrance ramp from Illinois 37 to eastbound I-64 will be closed.
Massac County
IDOT announced lane reductions on the bridge carrying I-24 over the Ohio River. Crews will install a new deck overlay, replace expansion joints, repair structural steel, paint the bridge and resurface pavement. This will start, weather permitting, on Monday, March 3 and is expected to last through Oct. 14. One lane will always stay open in each direction. I-24 traffic will also be down to one lane in each direction while crews will be installing a temporary concrete barrier along the center line. Future lane restrictions will be announced. The overall project is expected to be finished in 2027.
Perry County
U.S. 51 will be closed to traffic between Park Street and North Street in Du Quoin on Tuesday, July 8. IDOT said the closure is necessary to complete pavement replacement work and is expected to last approximately 30 days. There will be a marked detour. Local traffic should use Maple Street. Truck traffic will be detoured to the west using Illinois 152, Illinois 13/127 and Illinois 154.
Randolph County

Williamson County
Wildcat Drive at the intersection of Route 37 in Marion will be closed starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, June through Friday, August 8. Crews will be constructing a new roundabout. Message boards, signage and other traffic control devices will be in place to guide drivers through the area. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to choose alternate routes during the closure.
Kentucky
Ballard County
Milling and paving is expected to begin along KY 121/Court Street/Mayfield Road between U.S. 51 in Wickliffe and Freeman Road on Thursday, July 3 through the end of July. Crews will begin on KY 121 in downtown Wickliffe. During this time, milling and paving will be curb-to-curb, so no on-street parking will be permitted in the downtown area or near the courthouse. Crews will then proceed southeast along KY 121 toward Freeman Road.
A daytime work zone along KY 121/Mayfield Road/Court Street between Freeman Road and U.S. 51 in Wickliffe begins on Monday, June 30. Crews will be upgrading sidewalk curbs and ramps, milling and paving. This phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of July.
KYTC says the intersection of U.S. 60/Kentucky Drive and KY 358/Bluegrass Drive in La Center will be placed in red flashing mode starting on Monday, March 31, creating a temporary four-way stop. This is near the 10.7 mile marker of U.S. 60/Kentucky Drive. Intersecting roads are KY 358/Bluegrass Drive and Olive Street. There is no estimated duration.
Calloway County
A daytime work zone will go into place along KY 80, in the eastbound lanes only, from KY 94C to the Calloway-Marshall County Line on Wednesday, July 23, for milling and paving work. The project is expected to take about three weeks.
Starting Friday, March 21, traffic will shift to the onsite diversion around the work zone at the 10.843-mile marker on KY 121 South, between KY 893/New Providence Road and KY 1497/Murray Paris Road, southeast of Murray. Crews are building a new bridge over Clayton Creek. Work is expected to take about six months.
Beginning Monday, June 30, a contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will close Beechy Road/CR 1183 to repair a bridge between Grubbs Road and Winchester Road. The repairs are expected to take about two months to complete.
Crittenden County
KYTC plans to temporarily close Tabor Road KY 1113 from KY 902 in Crittenden County to KY 1943 in Lyon County to perform shoulder repairs on both sides of the road. Work is scheduled to take place from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, August 1.
A paving project will reduce U.S. 60 to one lane in the Marion area starting on Wednesday, June 27. A crew will be milling and paving along U.S. 60/Main Street in Downtown Marion. During paving operations in the downtown area, drivers should avoid parking on the street between Bellville and Depot Streets to keep the work zone clear.
KY 387, sometimes called Dam 50 Road, will be closed about 3/4ths of a mile east of KY 91 at 8 a.m., on Monday, March 31 for about 120 working days. This closure will block access to KY 91 for most residents along a 3-mile section of KY 387. There will be no marked detour. This closure requires an extended self-detour via Cotton Patch Road and KY 654 for residents and farmers, as well as for campers and boaters seeking access to the Riverview Park campground and boat ramp.
Fulton County
A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans an extended closure along KY 166 near its intersection with KY 1125 in Fulton County beginning Tuesday, June 10. The closure at mile point 9.05, located west of the city of Fulton, is necessary to allow for construction of a new bridge. There will be no marked detour. Jim Smith Contracting is the prime contractor for this $1.2 million bridge replacement project, which is scheduled for completion by August 31.

The work zone will extend from mile point 1.84 in Fulton County to mile point 20.3 in Graves County. Crews will be placing temporary traffic striping and removing existing center and edge-line reflective striping in both directions. The overall project is expected to be completed by September 30.
KY 94/E. Carroll Street is closed due to a slide near the 12.7 MP in the city of Hickman. The roadway is closed to through traffic.
KY 1128 is closed at the 6.37 MP due to the closure of a bridge over Mud Creek. This section of KY 1128 is located between KY 1127 and KY 1212. Estimate for project completion by the end of 2025.
KY 1907/Swamp Root Road is closed at the 1.727 MP at the Little Bayou de Chien Bridge. KY 1907 connects KY 94 and KY 781 northeast of the Cayce community. Estimate for project completion by the end of 2025.
KY 2140 is closed at the 3.767 MP due to the closure of a bridge over Mud Creek. This section of KY 2140 is located between KY 94 and KY 1129. Estimate for project completion by the end of 2025.
KY 1282 is closed at the 4.741 MP at the Owens Slough Bridge. This is between KY 311 and KY 925 near the intersection of Joe Parker Road. Estimate for project completion by the end of 2025.
Graves County
A KYTC contractor plans a daytime work zone lane restriction along KY 94 starting on Tuesday, July 15, weather permitting. A crew will be milling and paving from KY 83 in Tri-City to the Graves-Calloway County Line, or mile points 15.7 to 19.7. This phase of work is expected to take approximately three weeks, with overall project completion by November 15.
A KYTC contractor will resume a daytime work zone lane restriction along KY 994/Old Mayfield Road on Tuesday, July 15, weather permitting. A crew will be paving from mile points 0 to 4.3 between KY 849, near the community of Boaz, and the Graves-McCracken County Line. The work is expected to last about two weeks.
On June 27, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet closed KY 1124 in Graves County near mile marker 5.6 to repair a failed cross drain. Repairs will be scheduled.
Starting June 26, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has closed KY 339 in Graves County at the 33.3 mile marker due to undermined pavement. This is just north of Monroe Street in Lowes. Repairs will be scheduled. Drivers are asked to find a way around the closure.

KYTC closed a bridge at the 0.12 mile marker on KY 1748 over Obion Creek on Thursday, February 6. This section of KY 1748 is located between KY 339 and Oldham Lane, east of Wingo. The bridge is closed until it can be replaced by the end of 2025.
KY 1485/Bellville Road is closed at the 2 MP at the Terrapin Creek Bridge about two miles north of the KY-TN State Line. This bridge is scheduled to be replaced.
KY 1748 is closed at the 0.12 MP at the Obion Creek Bridge. This section of KY 1748 is located between KY 339 and Oldham Lane, east of Wingo. Estimate for project completion by the end of the year.
Hickman County
A KYTC contractor plans to implement a daytime, rolling work zone along Interstate 69 in Fulton, Hickman and Graves counties starting Tuesday, June 3. The work zone will extend from mile point 1.84 in Fulton County to mile point 20.3 in Graves County. Crews will be placing temporary traffic striping and removing existing center and edge-line reflective striping in both directions. The overall project is expected to be completed by September 30.
KY 780 is closed at the 3.818-mile marker due to substructure deterioration on the Bayou de Chien Bridge between U.S. 51 and Martin Road. The bridge will remain closed until engineers can develop a repair plan. Drivers may self-detour via the north end of KY 780 to U.S. 51 (S. Washington St.) at the south edge of Clinton.
Livingston County
A KYTC contractor Livingston County highway maintenance crew has implemented a lane restriction on KY 453/Dover Road near U.S. 62, north Grand Rivers, due to a sinkhole between mile point 2.3 and 2.5. There is no estimated duration. State engineers will assess the roadway and develop a plan for repairs.
KY 1889 is closed at the 0.8 mile marker due to a failed cross drain. The closure is between KY 453 and Coon Chapel Road. Repairs will be scheduled. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
Lyon County
KYTC plans to temporarily close Tabor Road KY 1113 from KY 902 in Crittenden County to KY 1943 in Lyon County to perform shoulder repairs on both sides of the road. Work is scheduled to take place from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, August 1.
Nighttime work zone lane restriction along Interstate 24 from the I-24 Cumberland River Bridge to KY 293 will begin on Friday, April 27 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. This is between the bridge at mile point 33.88 on the Livingston-Lyon County Line to near I-24 Exit 45 at KY 293 at mile point 44.7. Crews will be working in three-mile sections, removing center- and edge-line reflective striping and then sealing cracks in the asphalt pavement. The estimated target for overall project competition is about September 30, 2025.
KY 295 is closed at the Crittenden-Lyon County line at the Livingston Creek Bridge due to structural issues on the bridge. Signs and barricades are posted. KYTC is working to secure additional right-of-way needed for construction.
KYTC plans to extend the closure of KY 408/Eggners Ferry Road starting on Monday, October 23. It will be closed for about 22 months immediately east of Benton between KY 1462/Benton-Birmingham Road and KY 1897/Olive-Hamlet Road to allow four bridges to be constructed. Due to the number of bridges being replaced, the work will be done in phases: John Rivers overflow bridge at 8.823mm, John Rivers Bridge at 8.944mm, Clarks River overflow bridge at 9.345mm and Clarks River Bridge at 9.795mm. There will be a marked detour via U.S. 68 and KY 1462/Benton-Birmingham Road. The detour adds 2.2 miles or about 4 minutes of travel time to the route. The target completion date is Aug. 15, 2025.
Marshall County
KYTC plans an extended closure on KY 2595/Lakeview Church Road in Marshall County beginning Monday, July 7. The closure at mile point 3.3, located west of the Kentucky Dam Marina, is necessary to allow for the construction of a new bridge. The project is expected to be completed by the end of August. Drivers are asked to self-detour. To remain on state-maintained routes, use U.S. 641 and KY 1422. This detour adds approximately 11.6 miles to the trip. The existing bridge, one of the last full timber structures remaining in KYTC District 1, is currently posted with a 3-ton weight limit.
KYTC closed the bridge on KY 1836/Duncan Creek Road, south of KY 402/Brewers Highway, between Roy Mason Lane and Arrowhead Road, on Friday, June 6 until further notice. KYTC said an inspection team found deterioration of the bridge substructure. Engineers will be evaluating the bridge to determine if it can be repaired or replaced.
KY 402/Aurora Highway will be closed at the 9.9 MP (Clarks River Bridge) starting Monday, June 9. A KYTC contractor will move equipment from KY 408 to the KY 402 project site to begin construction of a new bridge. Estimated project completion is around the end of July 2026.
McCracken County
A project to improve Stuart Nelson Park Road begins Monday, August 4. Once completed, this roadway will be one of the main entrances for the Paducah Sports Park, which is currently under construction. All Paducah Sports Park construction traffic will be diverted to the Downs Drive entrance into the Sports Park. For the businesses and residences on Stuart Nelson Park Road, crews will work to maintain one lane of traffic. However, there will be temporary closures. The entire project will take approximately 8 weeks.
Crews will begin a traffic signal replacement project at the intersection of James Sanders Boulevard and Pecan Drive in Paducah on Monday, July 28. Lane closures and delays getting through the intersection are expected.
Nighttime lane restrictions on I-24 eastbound in Lyon and McCracken Counties from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Monday, July 21 as part of an interstate micro-surfacing project. Work could shift to I-24 westbound as early as Wednesday, July 23. A reduced speed limit of 55 mph is in effect in the work zone. The next phase of the project in Lyon County will be micro-paving, which is expected to begin on or about July 25. Permanent striping on I-24 in McCracken County will take place intermittently over the next few weeks. The McCracken County work zone is between the I-24 Ohio River Bridge and Exit 16. During the striping operation, a mobile work zone will be active on I-24 between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.
The overall project, which spans portions of Interstates 24 and 69 within KYTC District 1, is set to be completed by Tuesday, September 30.
A nighttime lane restriction for a micro-surfacing project on Interstate 24 in McCracken County resumes on Wednesday, July 16, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
A KYTC contractor will be working in smaller sections in both eastbound and westbound directions, between the bridge and Exit 16. Additionally, permanent striping on I-24 westbound in McCracken County could start Friday, July 18, and continue through Sunday, July 20. During the striping operation, a mobile work zone will be active on I-24 between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.
Permanent striping for the eastbound lanes of I-24 will be scheduled at a later date. This work is part of a $9.2 million micro-paving project along sections of Interstates 24 and 69 in KYTC District 1. The entire project is scheduled for completion by September 30.
Beginning Monday, July 14, a segment of the Greenway Trail between Northview and Burnett streets will be closed to the public until approximately October 1 for a Paducah-McCracken County Joint Sewer Agency (JSA) project. This project also requires the closure of North 6th Street between Northview and Burnett.
The city of Paducah will close one lane of Water Street starting June 9 as construction of the Riverboat Excursion Pier begins. Crews will be working Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. This phase of the project is expected to be from June to December.
A KYTC contractor plans a nighttime, work zone lane restriction on Interstate 24 (alternating between eastbound and westbound lanes) starting at the 16.2-mile marker and working toward the I-24 Ohio River Bridge in McCracken County starting Sunday night, April 13 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Crews will be working in three-mile sections to seal cracks in the asphalt pavement. The work zone will have a reduced speed limit of 55 mph. The estimated target for project competition is about September 30.
Trigg County
A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is planning an extended closure of KY 124/Cerulean Road at its intersection with KY 139/Jefferson Street in Cadiz, starting on Monday, July 21. Closure of this section of KY 124/Cerulean Road, between KY 139 and Line Street, will allow for the realignment and reconstruction of the KY 139/KY 124 intersection. The work is expected to take about six weeks, weather permitting. This phase of the project should not impact traffic on KY 139/Jefferson Street. The project is part of the state’s Six-Year Highway Plan and represents an investment of $872,000. Work includes roadway excavation, intersection realignment and reconstruction, storm water installation and both asphalt and concrete paving. The project is expected to be finished by November 15.
A nighttime, work zone lane restriction on Interstate 24 eastbound near the 62-mile marker on the KY 124/Cerulean Road overpass has ended, however, a one-lane restriction will remain in place to control alternating traffic flow. According to KYTC, the original project was paused on Thursday, April 17 for additional engineering work. Crews have been repairing steel beams on the overpass, which crosses over Interstate 24.
A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will begin demolition of a building at the intersection of KY 139/Jefferson Street and KY 124/Cerulean Road on Monday, May 5. The building is the former Wilson’s Grocery store. Flaggers will be on sight to direct drivers in the work zone. The entire project is expected to be completed by November 15.
