A Mother’s Fight for Her Husband and the Hostages

My husband, Omri, is the father of our two beautiful young daughters. He was kidnapped from our home in Kibbutz Nahal Oz on October 7, 2023, along with 250 other people from the region. Since that day, I have been fighting every single day to secure a deal that will end the war and bring Omri and the other 49 hostages who remain in Gaza back home.

Across Israel, businesses were closed on Sunday as the public came together in hundreds of events around the country to show solidarity with hostage families and demand an end to the conflict in Gaza. This collective action was not just a demonstration—it was a powerful message sent to decision-makers both locally and globally. It was a clear declaration that the Israeli people are united in their desire for peace and the safe return of all hostages.

Polls consistently show that 80% of Israelis want the hostages back and an end to the war. This strike was a very clear statement—something that cannot be ignored. It is a reminder to everyone involved that this is what we want, and we will not stop until it happens.

I don’t know if this will help, but I know I have to try everything I can so that Omri hears the word “Dad” again. The outpouring of support on Sunday was overwhelming. More than 400,000 people participated, and yet, we are far from being done. Our struggle is not ending—it is only intensifying. We will not stop until all the hostages are home, until my Omri is home, and until the war is over.

Every citizen who took part in the demonstrations—whether by gathering in a square near their home, honking on the roads, or waving a sign—became a lifeline. A lifeline for the hostages, for the soldiers risking their lives in Gaza, and for the families enduring this pain. Every small action today is a great point of light for those affected. Together, we are creating a show of force that reflects the resilience of our people. We do not give up on life, on hope, or on responsibility.

Last week, when hostage families and bereaved families announced this strike, I couldn’t have imagined how impactful it would be. Today, like every day in the past 682 days, we are demanding one thing: a deal. One deal that will end the war and return all 50 hostages. The survivors must return for rehabilitation, and the deceased must have a proper burial.

I still can’t believe that after 22 months, we still need to use the word “struggle.” The heart, the body, and the entire country are barely carrying this anymore. To really win, we need them here.

Every action today is a lifeline—for the hostages, for the families, for our people—and for a deal that ends this war and brings all 50 hostages home. Donald Trump, the Israeli public wants them home. The world wants them home. Please make it happen. Seal the deal.

And to my beloved Omri, the whole country came out on Sunday. I hope you saw a little and received strength. I promise you, you will still hear the word “Dad.” You will still get a hug that will heal everything from our beautiful daughters, Roni and Alma.
