Fastest Mobile Services Ranked, One Emerges as Top Winner

The Fastest Mobile Network in 2025
For as long as the mobile network industry has existed, carriers have been locked in a continuous race to deliver the fastest and most reliable connections. Since the early days of 3G, there have been annual reports on the performance of major players. However, the competition hasn't slowed down. Carriers continue to expand their networks, improve infrastructure, and push for faster download speeds—especially as new competitors like satellite internet providers such as Starlink emerge.
So, what is the fastest mobile network in 2025? According to the latest data from Ookla, the company behind the widely used internet speed testing service Speedtest, T-Mobile has once again claimed the top spot.
T-Mobile Leads the Pack
Ookla recently released its Speedtest Connectivity Report, which measures network speeds across the United States for the first half of 2025. The results are clear: T-Mobile has the fastest mobile network. Based on metrics such as download speeds, upload speeds, and overall performance, T-Mobile achieved a “speed score” of 74.45 through June 2025. This puts it well ahead of its competitors, with Verizon at 65.72 and AT&T at 63.16.
T-Mobile not only took the title of fastest mobile network but also won the award for the best overall mobile network and the best 5G network. These results highlight the carrier’s strong performance across various regions and use cases.
Consistency and Coverage
One of the key factors that contributed to T-Mobile's success was its consistency. The carrier was the fastest in 46 states and Washington, D.C., while Verizon only led in North Dakota. In the remaining four states, the results were too close to call. AT&T wasn’t the fastest in any U.S. state or territory.
T-Mobile also dominated in most large U.S. cities. While AT&T had the top spot in Chicago and Verizon led in San Francisco, T-Mobile maintained a strong presence in other major metropolitan areas.
A Winning Streak
These results aren’t entirely unexpected. T-Mobile has consistently ranked at the top of mobile network speed tests over the past few years. In 2021, PCMag tested all three major networks by driving 10,000 miles and concluded that T-Mobile was the fastest. Since then, the carrier has held onto the title, including in Ookla’s 2023 and 2024 reports.
Verizon Shines in Streaming Performance
While T-Mobile took the overall win, Verizon still performed well in specific categories. According to Ookla, Verizon was the second-fastest mobile network and the best for streaming. It also received the highest 5G streaming score. So, if you're primarily concerned with streaming video on your devices, Verizon might be the better choice.
AT&T Excels in Internet Service Provider Metrics
AT&T didn’t win any awards in the mobile network rankings, but it did excel in another area. The AT&T Fiber network was named the top-rated internet service provider (ISP) overall. It also received the highest median download speed among ISPs and topped the "Consumer Sentiment" category.
For customers who frequently connect to WiFi, AT&T offers some distinct advantages.
Final Thoughts
The 2025 Speedtest Connectivity Report highlights the evolving landscape of mobile and internet services. While T-Mobile continues to lead in speed and reliability, other carriers like Verizon and AT&T offer unique strengths in different areas. Whether you prioritize raw speed, streaming performance, or home internet service, there's a carrier that can meet your needs.
