Fantastic Four: First Steps Ending & Post-Credits Breakdown

A New Era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken a bold step forward with the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, a film that marks the debut of Marvel’s First Family in the cinematic universe. This movie is not just a standalone adventure but also a crucial piece in the larger puzzle of the MCU, setting up future events that could reshape the entire superhero landscape.
The story unfolds in an alternate reality known as Earth-828, where the Fantastic Four are the only superheroes. The film begins with a nostalgic montage showcasing their past adventures, highlighting how beloved they are by the public. Their image even appears on cereal boxes and talk shows, reinforcing their status as true heroes. However, this peace is shattered when the arrival of Franklin Richards, the son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm, brings about a new threat.
Confronting Galactus
The Silver Surfer, Shalla-Bal, arrives on Earth to deliver a chilling message: Earth-828 is marked for destruction. She serves as a herald for the cosmic entity Galactus, a being capable of consuming entire planets. The Fantastic Four, determined to protect their world, follow Shalla-Bal to a distant planet where they witness its destruction firsthand.
Galactus offers a deal: in exchange for Franklin, it will spare Earth. The team refuses, knowing the cost would be too high. They attempt to escape, but their journey is complicated by Sue going into labor. With the help of Reed's intellect and Ben's navigation skills, they manage to lose the Silver Surfer in a black hole.
Back on Earth, the team works tirelessly to build teleportation devices that can move the planet to safety. However, Shalla-Bal sabotages their efforts, leaving only one device operational in New York. The team devises a plan to use Franklin to lure Galactus into the device, hoping to send it far away from Earth. Johnny's ability to understand the Silver Surfer's language proves invaluable, as he manages to sway her to their side.
A Bittersweet Victory
Despite their efforts, Galactus discovers the ruse and heads toward the Baxter Building. The team fights valiantly, but one by one they fall. In a final act of courage, Sue creates a forcefield to push Galactus back, while Johnny activates the teleportation device. Reed rescues Franklin, and Shalla-Bal sacrifices herself to send Galactus into a wormhole, saving Earth.
However, the victory comes at a cost. Sue's immense use of power leads to her death, leaving the team devastated. But just when all hope seems lost, Franklin uses his powers to bring his mother back to life, hinting at the incredible potential he holds.
Introducing Doctor Doom
The film’s post-credits scenes set up significant developments for the MCU. The first scene reveals Doctor Doom making his grand entrance, showing that he originates from Earth-828. His interest in Franklin's powers hints at future conflicts, possibly involving the creation of Battleworld during Avengers: Doomsday.
The second post-credits scene is more lighthearted, featuring a cartoon of the Fantastic Four playing on TV. It includes glimpses of previous adversaries, such as Red Ghost, who was originally intended to be played by John Malkovich.
With Franklin's unlimited power and the looming threat of Doctor Doom, the stage is set for the next chapter in the MCU. The upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday promises to bring together Earth's Mightiest Heroes, with its release date set for December 18, 2026. Fans are eagerly awaiting what lies ahead, knowing that the journey is just beginning.
