Ex-Trump Aide Alleges Secret Plan Targeting Democratic Cities

Trump's Deployment of Federal Forces as a Political Strategy
Donald Trump has been leveraging the deployment of federal forces in U.S. cities as a strategic tool to consolidate his influence over Democratic strongholds, according to a former aide who served during his first term. This approach, as highlighted by Miles Taylor, a former Homeland Security official, is not primarily about addressing crime or immigration but rather about gaining power and control.
Taylor, speaking on MSNBC’s The Weekend, emphasized that Trump’s actions in Washington, D.C., are more about political leverage than any immediate issues like crime or immigration. He described the situation as a complex interplay of strategies, likening it to a Russian doll with multiple layers of metaphorical "Trojan horses." According to Taylor, the real motivation behind these deployments is power and the ability to influence local authorities.
“Everything that he does by his own explication is about how do you get the leverage to do the next thing you want,” Taylor explained. He argued that Trump is employing a classic authoritarian tactic: taking control of armed forces to coerce local governments. “You control the guys with the guns,” he said. “And especially if that’s in Democratic cities, then it doesn’t matter whether it’s immigration or whether it’s federal housing law or whether it’s student loans or whether it’s universities. If he controls force in that territory, he has the leverage to go get all of those things done.”
This strategy extends beyond just controlling the military. Taylor pointed to federal deployments in Los Angeles this summer as an example. While the administration initially framed these operations as temporary immigration-related efforts, he claimed they have expanded significantly since then.
Despite Trump’s claims that crime was “out of control” in Washington, D.C., police data shows that violent crime dropped to a three-decade low last year. However, Trump continues to push his narrative, emphasizing the need for federal intervention. He recently stated on Truth Social, “The White House is in charge,” and announced plans to federalize D.C. police during a press conference.
In one of his social media rants, Trump argued, “If D.C. were a State, it would have the highest Homicide Rate of any State in America.” Yet, there was a recent reversal when the Trump administration agreed to let the D.C. police chief remain in charge after city officials sued to block the president’s attempt to take over the force.
Additionally, Attorney General Pam Bondi directed the district’s police to work with federal immigration authorities, regardless of city laws. This move highlights the broader implications of Trump’s strategy, which aims to exert control over local governance through federal intervention.
Taylor, known for his criticism of Trump, previously wrote an op-ed for the New York Times titled “I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration.” He later authored a book warning about the risks of Trump’s re-election. In response, Trump has targeted Taylor, even ordering the Justice Department to investigate him.
The ongoing debate around federal interventions in cities underscores a larger issue of power dynamics between the federal government and local authorities. As Trump continues to push his agenda, the question remains: How far will he go to maintain control and influence over key regions? The implications of his actions could reshape the political landscape for years to come.
