Ex-KDF Soldier Patrick Osoi Arrested Post-FBI Investigation

Arrest of a Prominent Security Expert and Presidential Candidate
Patrick Osoi, a former military officer and security expert, has been arrested under mysterious circumstances. A statement from his communication team on Wednesday, July 30, revealed that the U.S. veteran is currently in police custody. According to an update shared on his X account, Osoi is being charged with "preparation to commit felony." The details surrounding his arrest remain unclear.
Earlier reports indicated that Osoi was taken by heavily armed individuals on the night of Tuesday, July 29, 2025. His exact location and the reasons behind his abduction are still unknown. Supporters have called for his release, emphasizing that he was abducted by a group of armed men. They continue to demand answers about the motives behind his detention.
Osoi is a prominent figure in Kenyan politics, having declared himself as a presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. His campaign platform focuses on security reform, anti-corruption efforts, governance improvements, and economic revitalization. He has consistently criticized President William Ruto's policies, particularly regarding economic challenges, extrajudicial killings, and police brutality.
Criticisms of Government Actions
Osoi has also taken issue with the police authorities' initial statements suggesting possible links between the incidents and cults, serial killers, or rogue medical practitioners. In one notable instance, he accused the government of orchestrating extrajudicial killings to suppress public dissent over high living costs and unemployment.
"The extrajudicial killings that are taking place appear to be a clear violation of international human rights treaties that Kenya has ratified, particularly the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Conventions against Torture and Enforced Disappearances," Osoi stated.
Formation of the FBI Movement
In a significant move, Osoi announced the formation of the Fighting Brutality and Impunity (FBI) on July 28. This initiative brings together officers who share a common goal of fighting for the rights of Kenyans. Among those involved are Cop Shakur and Police Constable Hiram Kimathi.
"Having served as a KDF Special Forces Soldier, NIS officer and a US Army Veteran, I have taken the solemn initiative of bringing together cops who share the same ideology of fighting for Kenyans by forming a movement dubbed Fighting Brutality and Impunity (FBI). Together with Cop Shakur and Hiram Kimathi, we present ourselves to fight for the rights of every Kenyan mistreated by the police who follow illegal orders, victims of the June 25th 2024 and subsequent times, families of those killed during all these times, police officers and former police officers who have been neglected by the same system they fight for," Osoi said.
The FBI's mission is to bring justice to Kenyans and ensure that their voices are heard. Osoi emphasized that the group is prepared to fight relentlessly for their cause.
Public Statements and Future Plans
On July 29, Osoi posted a photo of himself with Cop Shakur and Constable Hiram on his X page. In a powerful message, he affirmed his commitment to freedom and dignity. "I would rather die with my head high, my faith unshaken, and a profound trust in the destiny of all Kenyans than live in modern-day slavery and capture by the political elitism," he said.
Osoi argued that the barriers designed to divide, silence, and maintain power can always be overcome. "This day, I choose dignity over chains, courage over fear, and freedom over oppression. No force can silence the truth. No walls can stand against the people who refuse to kneel. And as Kenyans, we refuse to kneel to oppression!" he declared.
He also mentioned that the FBI will soon unveil a political party, signaling a new phase in his activism and political journey.
Accusations Against the Government
Osoi has further accused the government of weaponizing and politicizing the National Police Service (NPS). He argues that police officers are humans with independent voices and should not face punishment for expressing views contrary to their superiors.
"We cannot weaponize and politicize the police force, especially punishment, to perceived rebels in the forces. Before being police officers, they are humans and Kenyans who have an independent voice," he said.
Osoi emphasized that while it is acceptable to transfer police officers, it is not right to punish them for expressing opinions that may differ from their superiors. He stressed the importance of protecting the rights of all Kenyans, regardless of their position within the system.
