'Every Year After': Inside Carley Fortune's Romance Adaptation

The Upcoming Romance Series "Every Year After" on Prime Video
Prime Video continues to expand its library of romance book adaptations, with a new project set to capture the hearts of fans. Following the massive success of The Summer I Turned Pretty, another bestselling romance novel is heading to the streaming platform: Carley Fortune’s Every Summer After. This adaptation will take a slightly different approach, with a change in the title and an expanded narrative.
Carley Fortune published Every Summer After in 2022, and it quickly became a fan-favorite. She later released One Golden Summer, which centers around an essential character from the original story. The Prime Video adaptation will now be titled Every Year After instead of Every Summer After. Fortune explained the decision to HAWXTECH, stating that the original title felt too limiting for a series. “The thinking behind that was that Every Summer After was like too confining as a season for a series, and Every Year After allowed them to open this up to a broader story,” she revealed.
What Is Every Year After About?
Every Year After will follow the events of Every Summer After. The story revolves around Persephone “Percy” Fraser, who made a major mistake a decade ago and hasn’t returned to Barry’s Bay since. When she receives news that the mother of her first love, Sam Florek, has died, she returns to pay her respects. Reuniting with Sam reignites old feelings, forcing both characters to confront why their relationship fell apart and whether they can rekindle their connection.
One of the most iconic moments from the book is when Sam says, “You came home.” Fortune emphasized the importance of keeping this scene in the adaptation, calling it “so, so important.”
Who Has Been Cast in Every Year After?
The main cast for Every Year After has been officially confirmed. Sadie Soverall, known for her role as Beatrix in Netflix’s Fate: The Winx Saga, will play Percy. Matt Cornett, who gained fame as E.J. in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, will portray Sam. Michael Bradway, best known for his role as Jack Damon on Chicago Fire, will play Charlie, Sam’s older brother. Aurora Perrineau, recognized for her roles in Prodigal Son and Kaos, has been cast as Chantal. Abigail Cowen, a Fate: The Winx Saga alum, will play Delilah, while Joseph Chiu, star of Motorheads, will play Jordie.
Fortune expressed excitement about the cast, telling Deadline, “This is an enormously talented group of actors, whose auditions made me laugh, swoon, and cry. I know they’ll have fans of Every Summer After falling in love with their favorite characters all over again.”
Production and Release Date
Every Year After is currently in production, with filming expected to last several months. While no official premiere date has been announced, it is likely to debut in 2026, possibly during the summer. Fans are already eager for the release, especially given the emotional depth of the story and the strong cast.
Will One Golden Summer Be Adapted?
Prime Video has not yet confirmed whether One Golden Summer, which follows Charlie’s love story, will be adapted. However, there are possibilities that the show could incorporate elements of the sequel into a future season or even develop a spinoff centered on Charlie. Fortune shared her hopes, saying, “I mean, I would love to see Alice and Nan on the screen.”
As the production moves forward, fans of the book are excited to see how the story will translate to the screen. With a compelling cast and a heartfelt narrative, Every Year After promises to be a standout addition to Prime Video’s lineup of romance series.
