Eva’s Public Plea for Ryan to Return to Directing

Eva Mendes, known for her presence on social media, recently shared a heartfelt message about her partner, whom she affectionately calls "my man." In a post featuring a white vest adorned with the poster of Lost River, the film that marked Ryan’s directorial debut, she expressed her desire for him to return to directing.

In 2014, Lost River was released, starring Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan, Iain De Caestecker, Matt Smith, and Eva herself. The film premiered at Cannes and was later released in the United States in 2015. While it received mixed reviews initially, its reputation has since grown among fans of surreal fantasy films. However, Ryan hasn’t directed another film since.

Eva’s recent post included a caption where she wrote: “I keep asking my man to please direct another film!” She also reflected on her experience working with Ryan on Lost River, calling it a “dark fairytale” that provided her with one of the most creative times in her career. She thanked those who have been giving the film extra attention due to its 10th-anniversary celebration.

A Film That Marked a Turning Point

Lost River turned out to be the last major film in Eva’s acting career. After that, she stepped back from Hollywood to focus on raising their daughters, Esmeralda and Amada. Her only acting role since then was a voice cameo in the TV series Bluey in 2021.

Fans were quick to respond to Eva’s post, with many expressing excitement about the possibility of Ryan returning to directing. Some even joked about being part of future projects. One fan wrote: “Yes yes yes! Please convince Ryan to write and direct again! Lost River is such a beautifully haunting fairytale that is criminally underrated.” Another added: “Tell him we are waiting for another one!! And that we also want a Lost River t-shirt.”

Eva’s brother, Carlo, an actor himself, also chimed in with a playful comment: “Yes, that would be amazing, put me in it, we could play brother and sister.”

In recent years, Eva has focused on building her own homecare brand, including her ownership of Skura sponges and various endorsement deals. She also released a children's book titled Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries.

Despite stepping away from acting, Eva has not ruled out a return to the industry. In a recent interview, she mentioned that the only way she would consider coming back is if it were alongside Ryan. “That’s the one thing I would love to do,” she said.

She praised the work they did together on The Place Beyond the Pines and Lost River, saying that Ryan brought something out of her that she had never experienced before. “He gets something out of me that's never been accessible before,” she added. “I had my moments when I worked with really great people.”
