Ethan Slater Unveils 'Wicked' Lego Sets at Comic-Con

Ethan Slater, known for his role as Boq in the Oscar-nominated film "Wicked," recently made a special appearance at Comic-Con in San Diego. The 33-year-old Tony-nominated actor was there to unveil a series of new Lego sets inspired by the upcoming sequel, "Wicked: For Good," set to release on November 21.

Slater, who played the character of Boq, a member of the Munchkinland, took time to explore the various sets and share his excitement with fans. He spent considerable time with the set featuring Boq's home in Munchkinland alongside toy versions of Elphaba and Glinda. These characters, portrayed by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande respectively, are central to the story and their Lego representations bring the world of "Wicked" to life in a unique way.

One of the standout features of the set is the "Beware of the Wicked Witch" sign, which reflects the propaganda against Elphaba in the Wizard of Oz universe. Slater noted that this detail adds an extra layer of depth to the set, highlighting the complex relationships between the characters. "Elphaba's one of Boq's only friends, and on the side of his house is the smear campaign against her. Terrible," he remarked.

The new movie promises an epic conclusion to the story, with Slater teasing that it will be "everything coming to a head." He explained that the characters have made significant decisions at the end of the first film, and the sequel will explore how they deal with the consequences of those choices. "So what we're going to see is all of these characters a little bit older. We already know them so well that to see how they grow in the second movie creates an even deeper connection to them," he said.

Slater also expressed his enthusiasm for the "Wicked" wall art set, which includes figures of Dorothy and her crew from "The Wizard of Oz," including Toto. This particular set holds a special place in his heart, as it reminds him of his early acting days. "The first role ever was when I was 4 years old, I played Toto to my sister's Dorothy," he shared. "I'm going to pretend that Toto is also a mini fig of me. It's the cutest I've ever looked."

Another set that caught his attention was the one featuring Glinda using a magnifying glass. Slater joked about what she might be searching for, suggesting it could lead to a spinoff. "What is she looking for with this? What is she looking for here? Does it really work? This is so Detective Glinda. That's actually a spinoff coming soon," he quipped.

While Slater enjoyed building with Lego as a child, he often preferred creating his own worlds rather than following pre-designed sets. However, he acknowledges that the new "Wicked" Lego sets do justice to the work of him and his co-stars. "The special thing about making 'Wicked' was being in this world and it was so intricately designed," he said. "The work in all of these Lego sets that make it just as intricate and lets you experience it and be creative with it, it's just a really beautiful thing. It feels really true to what we did."

As fans eagerly await the release of "Wicked: For Good," the new Lego sets offer a fun and interactive way to engage with the story and its characters. With a mix of nostalgia and innovation, these sets promise to captivate both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
