Drew Scott Nearly Ruined Key Relationship Moment

A Unique Proposal with a Few Hiccups
Drew Scott, known for his work on HGTV, has shared an entertaining story about how he proposed to his wife, Linda Phan. The proposal was anything but ordinary, involving a creative twist that almost didn’t go as planned.
Scott recently appeared on the Rodiculous Podcast and revealed how he decided to make the moment unforgettable. He wanted to recreate the romantic gesture from the song "Marry Me" by Train. To do this, he recorded his own version of the song, which his vocal coach wasn't aware of. This added a personal touch to the entire event.
The proposal wasn't just about the song. Scott took things a step further by booking a reservation at a restaurant that Linda had always wanted to try. He also designed a large cake featuring the character from Dr. Seuss’s "Oh, The Places You'll Go!" holding the engagement ring. The plan was for the cake to be rolled out while the song played, followed by Scott getting down on one knee.
To capture the moment, Scott used his production company to film everything. He set up cameras, GoPros, and even placed a microphone under the table. They did a test run, and everything looked perfect.
However, there was a problem: Linda had no idea what was happening. As the song played, she was caught up in a conversation about her day. Scott struggled to get her attention, which made the situation a bit awkward.
The big cake didn’t help either. When Linda saw it, she thought it was the carrot cake she had ordered. It wasn’t until Scott was down on one knee that she realized what was going on.
Despite the mishaps, the couple can now laugh about the experience. They have been married since 2018 and share two children. However, Scott expressed disappointment that they didn’t get the perfect footage of the proposal.
The restaurant owner wanted to make the setting more romantic, so he dimmed the lights. As a result, the video showed Scott sitting in a booth talking to nobody. Additionally, the audio technician accidentally mic'd the wrong side of the table, capturing the awkward conversation of the couple next to them.
Despite these issues, fans and followers of the couple were moved by the thoughtfulness of the proposal. Many commented on how sweet and thoughtful it was, even if the recording didn’t turn out perfectly. One person wrote, “That’s so incredibly thoughtful though,” while another said, “I feel bad about the end result of the recording, but it's a great memory and so sweet!”
Even the official Property Brothers Instagram account chimed in with a message that read, “At least it worked out!” And indeed, it did. Scott and Phan ended up with their happily ever after and a funny story to tell.
