Geraldo Rivera Condemns Trump’s Immigration Policies

Former Fox News personality Geraldo Rivera has launched a fierce critique of President Donald Trump's handling of immigration, accusing the administration of undermining the fabric of long-standing communities and causing harm to innocent individuals. His comments came during a discussion on MSNBC with podcaster Joe Rogan, who previously supported Trump but now openly criticizes him.

During the conversation, anchor Ari Melber pointed out that while the administration has claimed to be enforcing immigration laws, there is strong evidence suggesting these policies are being used to suppress free speech and First Amendment rights. Specifically, Melber highlighted the targeting of students who protested against the Israeli occupation of Gaza.

"I think that this is the most humiliating, harmful, racist government policy I've ever seen executed," Rivera said, expressing his disappointment with the current administration. He emphasized that the targeting of Latino communities is particularly concerning. "They walk around now, the laborers on Long Island, worried that because they are Mexican, they're going to get scooped up and their lives are going to be ruined and they're going to be ... deported to Africa someplace. I think it's really disgusting."

Rivera acknowledged that he supports a strong border policy, stating that building a wall 100 miles high if necessary is not an issue for him. However, he questioned why the administration is focusing on people who have been living in the country peacefully, contributing to society, and following the law. "Why are you bothering these people? Why are you going after these people? Why are you targeting these people?" he asked.

He also criticized the use of masks by immigration officers, noting that no other law enforcement agencies wear them. "The cops don't wear masks. The FBI doesn't wear a mask. Nobody wears masks. Nobody. Because they're doing something honorable to protect the people. And yet only immigration officers wear masks," Rivera said. He suggested that the reason for the masks is not fear but embarrassment over their actions.

"Their actions are ruining lives. I think it's horrible," Rivera added, emphasizing the impact on families and communities. He mentioned that areas like East Los Angeles, where a significant percentage of the population is undocumented, are considering building walls to keep immigration officers out. "Why in the world are they wearing masks?"

Melber agreed, echoing Rivera's sentiment about the irony of the situation. Rivera concluded by calling the policies "lowbrow" and "shameful in every regard."
