Excitement Builds for Wicked: For Good

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande have captured the hearts of audiences with their performances in Wicked, creating a buzz that has extended into awards season. Their characters, Elphaba and Glinda, start as rivals but eventually become close friends at Shiz University. As fans eagerly anticipate the release of Wicked: Part Two—titled Wicked: For Good—Erivo has hinted that the sequel will bring more "spice" than the first film.

At the SAG Awards, Erivo shared her excitement about what fans can expect from the upcoming movie. She described the second film as a conclusion to the story, emphasizing how emotionally deep and mature the characters are. “They’ve really grown, all three of them have,” she said, referring to herself, Jonathan Bailey, and Ariana Grande. “Working with Johnny, I mean, he's a dream. He's such a sweetheart and so thoughtful.”

The sequel promises to be a different experience from the stage version. Erivo expressed hope that fans will love it just as much as she does. “Discovering how these two women have grown together and grown apart in ways, but had to rediscover each other was a really interesting, lovely sort of journey that they have to come to in their own time,” she explained. “Myself and Ariana finding it together was really special. It was just a trip the whole way through.”

A New Level of Intensity

Erivo also teased that Wicked: For Good will feature more "spice" than the first film. “I think you can expect a little bit of spice in the second part because they've grown up a little bit,” she told People. “They're not in school anymore; they've stepped into their careers and stepped into their choices and we'll see a little bit of spice, I think. For sure. It's necessary.”

This hint of added intensity makes fans even more excited for the movie. The original Broadway version of “As Long As You're Mine” has always been a fan favorite, and many are eager to hear Erivo and Jonathan Bailey perform the movie version. The emotional depth of the film is expected to be just as powerful.

Emotional and Unconditional Love

Ariana Grande also spoke about the sequel during an appearance at the Santa Barbara International Festival. She described Wicked: For Good as “very special” and “very emotional.” “If movie one is about choices, movie two is about consequences,” she said. “The second movie really embodies unconditional love and forgiveness and friendship.”

Grande emphasized that the sequel will be quite different from the first film, though it will still resonate with fans. “You'll have to wait and see, but it is quite different,” she added.

A Strong Cast Bond

Despite the differences between the films, one thing remains clear: the cast’s bond will shine through. Ethan Slater, who plays Fiyero, shared his experience working with the cast and director Jon M. Chu. He mentioned that the cast quickly felt like a family. “The first day I think every actor had a minimum two-hour meeting with Jon just to walk through all of the designs and all the things and talk about character,” he said.

Slater noted that the atmosphere on set was welcoming and safe. “From the very beginning, it just felt like it's really safe...This huge movie is something that we've been waiting for for 20 years on a big scale with the biggest stars in the world, it could have felt really intimidating and it felt really familial immediately.”

What to Expect

With its emotional depth, strong character development, and the promise of more "spice," Wicked: For Good is shaping up to be a compelling follow-up. Fans can look forward to a story that explores themes of love, forgiveness, and friendship. The film is scheduled to premiere on November 21, 2025, and anticipation is already building.

Whether you're a longtime fan of the Wicked musical or new to the story, the sequel promises to deliver an unforgettable experience. With a talented cast and a heartfelt narrative, Wicked: For Good is set to be a standout film in the coming year.
