‘Coyote vs. Acme’ movie set for fall 2026 after Comic-Con reveal

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — “Coyote vs. Acme” wasn’t supposed to happen, but the cast and filmmaking team took to San Diego Comic-Con this year to announce the movie will be released in theaters in fall 2026.

“This is the panel that you were not supposed to see. This movie was not supposed to come out,”  moderator Paul Scheer said to the cheering crowd at the start of the Saturday morning Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

The hybrid live-action/animated comedy was originally shelved by Warner Bros. in 2023, but is coming to the big screen next fall, being released by Ketchup Entertainment.

“This is an Acme decision, and I’m saying that for legal purposes,” Scheer said during the panel. “So, here it is. A major motion picture exposing 75 years of faulty products, corporate negligence, and customer endangerment. And Acme’s legal department went into overdrive, they’ve been trying to bury this film.”

P.J. Byrne, as his character “Bill Pellicano” from Acme, showed up in the middle of the panel with a “cease and desist” order and left as the crowd booed him.

The movie stars Will Forte (Kevin Avery), John Cena (Buddy Crane), and Lana Condor (Paige Avery), with James Gunn, Jeremy Slater and Samy Burch writing the storyline. The movie was directed by Dave Green.

“For the last 75 years, we have watched our desert hero (Wile E. Coyote) get blown up, catapulted, and plummeted to the pits of valleys all around the Southwest,” Scheer continued during the introduction.

The panel featured cast Will Forte (Kevin Avery), Eric Bauza (Wile E. Coyote), Martha Kelly, and P.J. Byrne (Bill Pellicano), who teased around 10 cameos in the movie, along with director Green, and Scheer as the moderator.

Fans in attendance saw a first look at the upcoming movie and left with exclusive Comic-Con merch.

Filmed in 2022, and taking place in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the movie is based on a 1990 New Yorker article “Coyote v. Acme,” featuring the cartoon character Wile E. Coyote and the Acme Corporation from the “Looney Tunes” and “Merrie Melodies” series of cartoons.

Later in the panel during the Q&A, Byrne’s “Pellicano” returned to the stage with more Acme paralegals to more boos from the room, stalling the play of the trailer and escorting the cast from the stage. “We have just taken out the projections,” said Byrne.

“Thank you again so much for making this happen, you guys. We never thought it would, and because of you, we’re going to get to see it,” Forte said to close out the panel.
